Shawn Mims (born March 22 1981) is an American hip hop artist. His first foray into hip-hop was as a producer. He is famed for his 2007 single "This Is Why I'm Hot".

Biography

MIMS was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan to a family of Jamaican descent.[1] By the age of thirteen, both of MIMS parents had died. Before his mother passed away, she bought him DJ equipment. It was his love for music which kept him focused on success, and out of trouble.[2] Originally known as Mr. Mims, MIMS was an underground MC and producer in Washington Heights.

In 2001, at the age of twenty, MIMS appeared on a Baby Blue Soundcrew compilation called Private Party Collector's Edition Vol. 2. He was featured on the album's first single "Love 'Em All" also featuring Canadian hip hop artist Choclair.[3] The song was only released in Canada, and MIMS also appeared in the music video.

In 2003, he recorded the song "I Did You Wrong" and began searching for a record deal. In 2006, he formed his own record label American King Music and independently released the hit single "This Is Why I'm Hot". After struggling to get signed, he finally convinced EMI/Capitol Records to sign him and his American King Music imprint in 2006. He recently released his follow-up single "Like This"

MIMS would later release a remix of "This Is Why I'm Hot" featuring Junior Reid and Cham.

MIMS also released a rock remix of This Is Why I'm Hot entitled "This is Why I Rock" with Purple Popcorn, which can be heard at Prefix Magazine
