Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime states that "Mario Kart Wii will be able to burn rubber around the world online..." The game was stated to be released within the first 3 months of 2008. However, no official release date has been stated.
The game will come packaged with the new Wii Wheel controller. It has also been confirmed to feature online functionality.
Gameplay
Unlike Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, this game will return to a single car style gameplay, similiar to Mario Kart DS.
The game will also have new tracks developed for this title, such as a new Mario Circuit. But older tracks will also be included, such as some tracks from Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, as shown in the E3 briefing.
Characters

Many of past characters from past games will also be returning. So far, only a few characters have been confirmed by the E3 2007 briefing. Each of them also has their own vehicles, from a painted racecar for Waluigi to a baby stroller for Baby Mario.
Online
This game has been confirmed at E3 2007 to make use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It will support an online racing mode and an online battle mode. This was announced during Nintendo's E3 2007 Media Briefing. Unlike online for Mario Kart DS, more than four players may be able to play each other online at once. For the first time ever it will also be possible to play online in Battle mode.
