The following is a FAQ for the page Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is intended to give answers to commonly asked questions in order to prevent the same discussions from cropping up again every week or so and to avoid common mistakes when editing the main article.

Note: FAQ Answers reflect the interpretation of the Brawl talk page archives. Please feel free to change them in light of new information.

Characters

Q: What characters have been confirmed for Brawl?

The E³ trailer [1] (which announced the game) showed nine characters for Brawl:

• Mario, the main character of the Mario series.
• Link, the hero of the Legend of Zelda series.
• Pikachu, the mascot of the Pokémon series.
• Kirby, the main character of the Kirby series.
• Samus, heroine of the Metroid series.
• Meta Knight, of the Kirby series.
• Zero Suit Samus, Samus's alternate form.
• Pit, the hero from Kid Icarus.
• Wario, Mario's rival and star of the WarioWare, Inc. and Wario Land series.
• Solid Snake, the main character from Konami's Metal Gear series.

At the Nintendo World Event, an additional character was revealed. [2]

• Fox McCloud, the main character of the Star Fox series.

And the Smash Bros. Dojo!! website has since revealed [3]

• Princess Zelda, the titular character of the Legend of Zelda series.
• Bowser, the reptilian antagonist of the Mario series.
• Donkey Kong, the main character of the Donkey Kong series.
• Yoshi, the dinosaur helper from the Mario series and main character of the Yoshi series.
• Ike, the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
• Pokémon Trainer, who is modeled after Red as he appears in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (uses Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard in battle).
• Princess Peach, the lead female of the Super Mario Bros. series.
• Diddy Kong, DK's adventuring partner in the Donkey Kong series.
• Ice Climbers, from their titular starring title.
• Lucas, the main protagonist of the Japan-only game Mother 3.
• Sonic, the titular character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

So far, no additional characters have been confirmed (or rejected) by official sources.

Q: It's obvious that (character) is going to be in Brawl. Should we put (character) in the article?

The main page for Brawl should only contain confirmed characters. Despite the fact that some characters, such as Captain Falcon or Jigglypuff, are virtually assumed to be in the game, this is still considered speculation, which is against Wikipedia's policies.

Q: I saw Petey Piranha in a video on super Smash Bros Dojo[4], why isn't he in the confirmed character list?

He is listed as a NPC-- a character the player can't choose to play as-- with the smash logo, not as a playable character. He is said to be the first boss the player fights in Adventure mode.

Q: Eiji Aonuma said that Sheik and Ganondorf are in the game! Why aren't they in the list yet?

The interview with GameInformer and Aonuma stated that he received submitted artwork of Sheik and Ganondorf for Brawl and that he was "working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best". It didn't state that they are really playable. For all we know, they could reappear as Assist Trophies, bosses, or something else we don't know about. Until they are confirmed, the list of confirmed characters will not include them.

Q: Toad can't be a playable character if he is an attack for Peach! Why do people discuss him as a possibility?

That might be true, but there are also many other possibilities. For example, some people speculate that Peach's attack does not use the character named "Toad," but the species of similar creatures also referred to as "Toads." Some people think this is a bad argument because, in past Smash games, multiple people have been able to use the same character at once.

But all this is just speculation, which is discouraged on Wikipedia. Until an official source tells us we have no way of knowing if Toad (or anyone else) is in the game or not. So unless one of the official sources states it, please don't add it to the article or the talk page.

Separate Characters

Q: Which characters are actually characters? Is Pokemon Trainer one or 3? Is Samus and Zero Suit Samus one or two characters?

To answer we will use links to the offical site: here is the table of characters with separate Samus and Zero Suit Samus characters, and here is Pokemon trainer listed as one character. We try to include the game's creators' opinion as far as characters go.

Zero Suit Samus

Q: Is Samus getting replaced in Brawl by a blue-clad version of herself without her Power Suit?

Nope! Samus simply has a new, additional form: Zero Suit Samus.

Q: How does Samus become Zero Suit Samus?

After Samus performs her Final Smash attack, all of her orange Power Suit armor falls off and she turns into Zero Suit Samus.[5]

Q: If both Samus and Zero Suit Samus are in the game, how will they be different?

Regular/Power Suit Samus has more power and defense, and tends to use her Power Shot as a gun. Zero Suit Samus has more speed, and tends to use her Power Shot as a whip. Also, it is likely that the two will have different special moves (much like Zelda and Shiek from Super Smash Bros. Melee.)

Q: How does Zero Suit Samus change back into Regular/Power Suit Samus?

That is not yet known.

Giga Bowser

Q: Giga Bowser is confirmed by the official site as a playable character! Where is he in the article?

Giga Bowser is not a "true character" like the others-- Bowser transforms into Giga Bowser when players activate Bowser's Final Smash attack. After a short time, however, they turn back into regular Bowser.

Q: Well if Giga Bowser is "not a true character" shouldn't we take down Zero Suit Samus as playable character too?

Unlike Zero Suit Samus, Giga Bowser is not currently listed on the playable characters table, while Zero Suit Samus is listed as a "newcomer" by the official site. In addition, Zero Suit Samus is a permanent transformation , while Giga Bowser is only a temporary transformation. Consider' Giga Bowser to just be an upgrade, like a Metal Box or a Super Mushroom.

Possible Characters List

Q: Shouldn't there be a list of possible characters to be included, so long as they are actually likely to appear?

No. Wikipedia is not for speculation. There are characters who are very likely to appear (Ness, Captain Falcon, etc.), but it's been agreed numerous times that the article should only contain confirmed characters (see "Confirmed Characters"), regardless of possibilities.

Kid Icarus

Q: How do you pronounce "Kid Icarus"? Is it "Kid Ica-roos" or "Kid I-CAR-us"...or neither?

The character's actual name is Pit, but he is often called "Kid Icarus", after the name of the series of games he starred in. Pronunciation is generally accepted to be either "Í-ka-ros" (the original Latin/Greek version) or the predominant Anglicized version, "I-ca-rus", with the stress on the first syllable.

3rd Party Characters

Q: Metal Gear was on the Nintendo Entertainment System, so Snake is a Nintendo character. Why does the article say otherwise?

That's not quite what it means to be a Nintendo character. In previous iterations of the Super Smash Bros. series, the fighters came solely from Nintendo's first and second party developers-- they only included characters that are owned in whole or in part by Nintendo. Third party developers, such as Konami (the company that created Snake) may make games for Nintendo consoles, but they are not owned by Nintendo itself. I Want Character/Stage/Item/Etc. to be in Brawl!

Q: I really want this character/stage/item/etc. to be in Brawl! I add it to the Wikipedia article for the game but it always gets deleted. What am I doing wrong?

It is great that you're so excited about Brawl but, Wikipedia is not for adding your suggestions-- the developer won't see them here anyway! You should only post facts about the game in Brawl's article and talk page. However, there are lots of great places to write your suggestions! There are lots of gaming-related discussion boards on other websites, such as GameFAQs's Super Smash Bros. Brawl Board, where other fans would love to hear your suggestions, and every Wikipedia user has his/her own User Page where you can write whatever you want!

Super Smash Bros. Dojo!!

Q: What is "Super Smash Bros. Dojo!!?" Has the game been renamed?

Smash Bros. Dojo!! is the name of the game's official website [6]. The game is still set to be titled Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Dojo!! Updates

Q: Hey, the site just released information about a new character/stage/item/move/etc. Can I add it to the article?

Nope. If we put everything new from Smash Bros. Dojo in the article, it would be way too long and cluttered, as discussed in this essay.

Online play

Q: Will SSBB feature online play? And if so, for how many characters?

Brawl will use the Wii's Wi-Fi capabilities for online play. [7] The number of characters available for online play is unknown.

Developer

Q: Who is developing Brawl?

The developer is not yet confirmed. There are signs that imply that the developer is Masahiro Sakurai's Sora, but nothing has been confirmed yet. HAL, Sora, and Nintendo have all been cited as developers at different times. It's quite a mess. However, it is known that Sakurai is in charge of the game. Sakurai has thus far only referred to the developers as "The Studio."

Release Date

Q: I've heard from a game store like Best Buy or GameStop that it is going to be released on (insert date here).

Retail outlets often put in a placeholder "guess" date if they're not certain when a game's coming out. The only way to know for sure is to get the information from an official source such as Nintendo's website or a press release. Some game sites will also do this, but usually they'll put in "TBA." Otherwise, all dates stated are incorrect and marked as speculation. The official release for North America used to be December 3, 2007 as stated by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime at E³ 2007 [8] and later confirmed by the game's official website, but on October 10, 2007, the website took down that date and changed the release date back to "TBA." No release date has officially been announced for any regions other than Japan, and it is likely that every region will not get the game until 2008.

Assist Trophies

Q: What are Assist Trophies, and should we list them on the page?

Assist Trophies are items similar to PokéBalls that contain a random cameo character from a Nintendo franchise who will appear and help the summoner or affect the battle in various ways. Like with Pokémon in PokéBalls, making a list of Assist Trophies should be avoided in order to conserve space for more significant information. However, the info can be added in each individual character's article instead. Please do not confuse Assist Trophies and Playable Characters-- the player can't control these characters.

Music

Q: They revealed another tune on the site. Does it go with "known stage"?

Please remember that not all of the stages have been revealed. Just because a song is listed on the site, it might not have a course at all. There will be may unlockable alternative tracks within the game as well. Please don't speculate.

Other News

Q: I just heard news from a small, non-well-known, or unverified source. Can't I bring it up in the talk page?

No. Nintendo releases all of its news through verified sites and people. Only Nintendo representatives, official Nintendo magazines, Smash Bros. Dojo!!, and Nintendo's official website give information official enough to go in the article. Please don't clutter up the talk page with information from other sources, since they won't make it into the article anyway.

Q: I have theories on new characters/moves/items/etc. Can't I share them?

Not Here. Just like with your suggestions, there are lots of places to talk about theories. But Wikipedia isn't one of them. Wikipedia is only for things we know will be in the game for sure, and the talk pages are for discussing the article about the game, not the game itself. Sharing theories can be fun-- but instead of posting them here, try going to one of the many gaming-related discussion forums around the 'net, where people would be far more excited to hear theories and suggestions. You could also set up a webpage for your theories, or put them on your Wikipedia User Page, where you can write whatever you want!
