Gameplay

Players develop their own characters and help further the storyline. For the purposes of the sim, the USS Amazon is a Sovereign Class starship and lead by Commander Michael Urban - Forum Leader.

Sim Membership

Members typically enter a simming organization by applying for admission. The USS Amazon utilizes a review process in which applicants apply for the position they are seeking through the Horizon Fleet IFS. Within 7 days, applicants recieve an email notifying them that they have either been accepted as a new crewmember aboard the ship or their application was inadequate. In most cases, applicants will receive a response within 2 days.

Applicants who do not meet the gaming standards are sent an email with suggestions on how they can improve their application. Once the application has been resubmitted and has met all the requirements, the player will be offered a position. The application proccess is three-fold.

Player Information

Applicants are first asked for basic player information such as their real name, age, email address, messenging contacts, and role playing experience.

Simm Information

Applicants are asked to list the ship they would like to serve on. They are given two choices, in the event their first choice is not accepting new players or their application does not meet the commanding officers specifications. The applicant is also asked to specify their preferred simming format. The options include plPlay by E-mail(PBEM), Play By Bulletin Board (PbBB), Play By Web (SMS), and Play By IRC. The USS Amazon is a Play By Bulletin Board (Internet Forum) based simulation. Next, the applicant is asked specify the position or role they would like to play aboard the ship.

Biography and Sample Post

Lastly, to judge the applicants level of writing and simming experience applicants are required to create a biography and sample post. The biography gives other players to understand your character better.

Missions

The direction and gameplay is lead in the form of missions. The Commanding Officer creates scenarios and roadblocks for players to resolve. The missions are accomplished when players utilize their position to resolve problems that arrive throughout the scenario.

Mission 0.1 - To Boldly Go

  • USS Amazon’s first Horizon Fleet mission. This mission was originally designed for new crew to come aboard the ship prior to its departure from Starbase Gatekeeper.

Mission 0.2 - A Sovereign Birth

  • The USS Amazon is now prepared to leave the hull of Starbase Gatekeeper and conduct it's first shakedown cruise. Beacause the crew is still awaiting the approval of Horizon Fleet Command to leave the star system, the Chief Engineer has developed a creative plan to demonstrate the capability of USS Amazon's navigational and weapons systems.

A previously discovered bacteria makes its new home aboard the uss amazon and exibits new evolution previously unknown by starfleet medical. Commander Michael Urban asks questions of his crew, not only to test their capabilities but to get to know them on a personal left. It’s a fresh crew and He’s interested in knowing what motivates them. What will he learn about his crew and what scientific research will the USS Amazon discover?

Mission 1 - Airborne Treason

  • Approximately 1 week ago, scientist working in the research facility had begun to see an increase in illness amongst its personnel. As a precaution, The Chief Science Officer assigned to the Avalon Research Facility requested a team be sent to the planet to evacuate the remaining 17 personnel who have not been infected. The remaining personnel include 8 Security Officers, 5 Medical Officers, 2 Science Officers, 1 Lab Technician and the Chief Science Officer. Because the Chief Science Officer’s resources and team is limited in size, they are also requesting that Starfleet temporarily take over the research facility and the initial investigation on surface.

Support and Resources

The Commanding Officer of the USS Amazon provides resources to it's players. These resources are catered towards enhancing the simming experience and teaching new players how sims are played. Some resources are hosted by the Commanding Officer while others are provided by Horizon Fleet at the discretion of the Commanding Officer.

Department of Personnel and Awards

  • The Department of Personnel and Awards, directed by Horizon Fleet's Rear Admiral Kailani Livian, provices resources for applicants. The department lists tips for completing crew applications. Prior to filing an application for the USS Amazon, potential applicants can read lessons on the acceptance/rejection process, biography writing, post writing, and transfers. Applicants are highly encouraged to utilize this tool as a guide for completing applications.

Cadet Academy

  • Horizon Fleet, upon request of the USS Amazon Commanding Officer, offers a simming academy to help new member learn to roleplay effectively. The Commanding Officer may direct players to complete the simming academy prior to starting gameplay.

Sim Rules

Most sims creat rules to govern how players interact. Success varies from one to another depending on how the sim is set up. The USS Amazon (Star Trek PbBB) is set up to reflect a militaristic organization. Rules for playing aboard the USS Amazon parallel the rules outlined by it's leaders in Horizon Fleet

Fleet Directives

  1. All characters must be the original work of their creator, and may not bear resemblance to canon characters such as Picard, Data, or Sisko. It is up to the Director of Personnel & Awards or an individual CO to make the final judgment as to whether a character is acceptable or not. Characters are for all the property of their creators, and so may not be misused, abused, or killed without express permission.
  2. Regardless of any previous simming experience, a Commanding Officer may require a Fleet Member to sit and pass the Cadet Academy. Until the Fleet Member has passed the Cadet Academy, they may hold rank no higher than Lieutenant JG.
  3. Generally speaking, players must post once every two weeks with each character they play to remain active. This posting requirement can be changed by individual COs for their ships, provided such a change is made known to all players on the ship and is available on the website. Failing to post at least once every two weeks may be grounds for dismissal after a one-week "grace" period. The exception to this is if the CO, which must be given if requested, within reason, grants a Leave of Absence to the player.
  4. Commanding Officers reserve the right to grant promotions, which are based primarily on in character posting ability, but can also be granted for exceptional out of character assistance to the simm. It is up to the CO to determine criteria for promotions.
  5. Commanding Officers reserve the right to start or end a mission. Story ideas are welcomed, but the CO also reserves the right to disregard or modify them. All officers should respect the 'flow' of a mission, and not introduce extraneous plot elements such as enemy attack, kidnapping, or other such major events without express CO permission.
  6. All Horizon Fleet simms will have a default rating of 13+. Individual COs can apply for a higher rating, which must be displayed prominently on their websites and in their ship notes in IFS. Even with a higher rating, HF posts should be generally of high moral standing and tastefully executed. If in doubt, err on the side of caution.
  7. As much as possible in a science fiction simm, please keep posts realistic. Your shuttle is not able to destroy a planet, and a ship out of torpedoes isn’t about to launch an assault on a heavily fortified enemy position.

You are allowed a total of five characters in Horizon Fleet. No more than one can be a Commanding Officer, and all must abide by posting regulations set out in Section 3 of this document. Additionally, each player is allowed only one character per simm, and each character must be unique.

  1. In addition to the 5 posting characters, a player may have up to two non-posting characters for ancillary fleet positions, such as Fleet Council or Research and Development.
  1. All Fleet Council Members have one vote. Fleet Council members must vote unless granted a Leave of Absence. Missing three votes can be considered grounds for dismissal.
  1. Horizon Fleet reserves the right to remove any player who can be considered a menace to the peaceful order of the Fleet, pending an investigation and trial by the Office of the Judge Advocate-General.
  2. A Commanding Officer who resigns must wait ninety (90) days to apply for a new command. Within seven (7) days of tendering his or her resignation, a CO may withdraw it and regain command of their ship. This 90 day waiting period can be shortened in exceptional circumstances, as determined by Fleet Council.
  3. Any Fleet Member deemed to be inexplicably inactive for a period of two weeks from the last communication could be removed from their position by the Office of the Judge Advocate-General, pending an investigation. The Office of the Judge Advocate-General can add up to one week to this grace period. Fleet Members removed in this fashion can petition Office of the Judge Advocate-General for reinstatement; if this petition passes they regain their rank and prior position.
  4. No Fleet Member may use the IFS to enter, alter, obtain or access data without authorization from the Fleet Council. Theft (or the unauthorized removal) of email addresses, ages, or any information held on the system relating to a Fleet Member in person (i.e. their real name, real age etc.) is an offence contrary to the Fleet Law and the mandatory punishment is removal from the Fleet (except in exceptional circumstances proven to JAG).

Additional Guidelines

  1. Players must follow all Starfleet General Guidelines. A complete list of Starfleet Guidelines COMING SOON!

Direct insubordination is not permitted unless the inclusion of insubordination in the storyline is previously arranged between the parties involved. These parties include, but are not limited to, the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, 2nd Officer, Division Chief, Element Leaders, or away team leaders.

  1. No crewmember aboard the USS Amazon is allowed to create lasting/extensive technology or upgrades without the Captain’s approval.
  2. Only the Commanding Officer is allowed to promote or demote characters. However, suggesting or recommending crewmembers for promotions or awards is highly taken into consideration.
  3. No player is allowed to use another person’s character in ways that do not fit the previously established personality, or make major changes the character without prior consent from the owner of the character.
  4. Crewmembers are not allowed to kill or severely injure another character without prior consent from the involved player.
  5. Remember that this is a game… The more you get involved, the better the game will be. HAVE FUN!
