Despite having a bevy of nice draft picks due to the poor performance of the Thrashers since their inception, he has managed to transform this team into the second oldest team in the NHL and currently has only Kari Lehtonen, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Tobias Enstrom to show for his drafting prowess. Most of those draft picks, or the prospects that they yielded, were traded away for aging vets like Keith Tkachuk and Alexei Zhitnik. Zhitnik is currently laughing all the way to the bank as a 3rd pairing defenseman and recent healthy scratch while the 22 year old prospect that was traded for him has managed to land a spot on the top pairing in Philly. Waddell is truly the biggest joke of a GM in the NHL. Now the Thrashers fanbase is on suicide watch as they await the fate of their franchise. The biggest bargaining chip in franchise history, Marian Hossa, is on the block and unfortunately the decision is in the hands of the ever inept Waddell who refuses to get max value for Hossa by insisting that he get a player of equal value because, despite holding the 5th worst record in the league, Waddell still believes the Thrashers are in a playoff hunt.
