Frindle (word)
I have added a "prod" template to the article Frindle (word), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. ==Satire?==
Hi all. I haven't edtited this article, but I am working on a project for School, and i would like to know if Orson Welles's broadcast could be considered a satire. If so, I would love to research more and use it as reference... Fultron89 (talk) 01:01, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

:(I moved this from the War of the Worlds talk page - discussion not directly about writing the article is discouraged...)

:Anyway, no, it's really not satire. A satire makes fun of something to be funny and/or to make a point. WotW was a story told mostly through fake news broadcasts. I dunno how old you are, so I'm unsure what other examples to recommend. If you're in HS or above, This is Spinal Tap and Dr. Strangelove are good places to start. :: I might add something, as well. Satire is a commentary on the society, usually by exaggerating certain negative elements of the society, and most often using humor. Fowler's Modern English describes it thus: (Motive: Amendment), (Province: Morals & Manners), (Method or Means: Accentuation), (Audience: The self-satisfied)

:: Humor isn't always a part of satire, either. See A Modest Proposal, which isn't really funny, until you realize what his plan really means. I'm not sure where you are in your education, either, but if you're not yet out of high school, mentioning A Modest Proposal is likely to score you some points with your teacher. Oh, also see Candide.

:: What else? There's the Monster Raving Looney Party, a satirical political party in the UK, the Satyricon, A Clockwork Orange (be warned: the film is pretty pornographic), The Daily Show, The Onion, Spitting Image and Les Guignols to name a few. Oh, and Zeng8r has excellent taste. This is Spinal Tap and Dr. Strangelove: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb are two of my favorites, as well. Good luck on your project.superlusertc 2007 December 06, 04:52 (UTC)
