Its fate is interesting and I would like you to assist me in starting this off as a Stub. Given your legal background you could do some digging concerning the collapse of Overend and Gurney Bank in May 1866. Which stopped all major rail capital projects, both at home and abroad, besides which it's effect on the UK banking system as catastrophic. Let me have your views and ideas please. In having discussions with some railway societies here in Sussex, the view is that whilst the line is mentioned in the Beeching 1 Report as unremunerative, in fact the reasons for closure were due to a lack of rolling stock. Basically not enough DEMUs to go around and run existing services when steam was removed from the BR system. Will be visiting the PRO at Kew this week to see what is in the files.
