Answer That and Stay Fashionable was the first full-length album released by hardcore punk band AFI. It was originally released on August 1, 1995 by Wingnut Records. Answer That and Stay Fashionable was recorded in Hayward, California at the studio of Andy Ernst with production help from Tim Armstrong and Brett Reed. The album was re-released through Nitro Records on April 22, 1997. The cover of the album is a parody of the film Reservoir Dogs, of which the album also contains audio excerpts. The album title stems from The Comic Strip Presents: "Bad News Tour", excerpts of which are played at the start of "Don't Make Me Ill" and the end of "Highschool Football Hero."

The vinyl re-release is available in a special pink tie-dye pressing. This colour occurred as an accident; it was originally meant to be a red and white "candy-cane" colour scheme, but problems during the pressing process led to the pink tye-die colour instead.[citation needed] The tracks "Two of a Kind" and "Yürf Rendenmein" were later re-recorded for the Very Proud of Ya album. The title of the song "Yürf Rendenmein" is a play on the phrase "your friend and mine."

All tracks recorded during the Answer That and Stay Fashionable sessions unless otherwise noted.

  • "Self-Pity" and "Key Lime Pie" appear as tracks 16 and 17 respectively on the vinyl edition of the album.
  • On the very first pressings of the album on Wingnut records, a cover of The Police's "Man in a Suitcase" appears as a hidden track after "Highschool Football Hero", preceded by a clip from the Looney Tunes short Wagon Heels. When re-released on Nitro Records, the song was omitted from all versions of the album, as the band did not like the recording, although the Looney Tunes clip is still present.
  • On the Nitro re-release of the album, the Circus Tents cover, "Open Your Eyes" was added into the normal tracklist. This is a re-recording of the version found on the Fly in the Ointment EP, featuring alternate vocal tracks and a different mix.
