Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

Thomassampson → ThomasSampson

On hold - Your account is already unified across Wikimedia projects, so you will need to ask a steward to delete your global account before you can be renamed locally. Requests can be made at m:SR/SUL. WjBscribe 10:15, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Elviajeropaisa → User:Albeiror24

Please have a steward delete your global account so we can perform this rename. Andre (talk) 13:54, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A4 → A1

On hold Are you A1 on the Ukranian wiki? If so, as your account is already unified across Wikimedia projects, so you will need to ask a steward to delete your global account before you can be renamed locally. Requests can be made at m:SR/SUL. WjBscribe 18:19, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am uk:User:A1. I don't want my global account be deleted, I just wanted to merge my existing on enwiki accounts - User:A4, which I registered locally on en quite long ago and User:A1 - wich is global into one account - A1. --A1 (talk) 19:02, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is not possible to rename accounts to a name reserved for a global account. To do this you need to have the global account deleted, then I can rename you, then you can recreate the account. WjBscribe 19:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rondador N → Rondador

Clerk note: Moved from USURP; target account is not currently registered. User requesting has two edits. It would be easier if you simply registered the account. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 03:57, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The account has been already usurped. You should be able to unify. If you want the edits from Rondador N to be transferred, you must have a Meta steward or bureaucrat delete your global account first. Andre (talk) 04:05, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can do this if need be. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 04:07, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead then, and I'll perform the rename. Andre (talk) 04:09, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 04:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done -- Andre (talk) 05:35, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yyttu → The undeleted account

Clerk note: whether the target username is within policy may be questionable. It could lead to confusions concerning the technical status of the account. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:37, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll allow it, but if people get confused I would ask you to change it again. Andre (talk) 07:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done by Andre. WjBscribe 13:19, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rudget → Caulde

This will be your third rename I believe? Is this to be your permanent name? I'm not that happy about users (particularly admins) hopping from name to name as it makes it hard to keep track of things. WjBscribe 11:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There will be nothing to track under the first two names (Radio orange and Onnaghar) since I barely edited under them. I do believe this would be final rename. Hopefully that promise can allay any concerns you may have. Rudget (Help?) 11:41, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't wish to proceed with a rename, that will be okay. Especially in consideration of your concerns. Regards, Rudget (Help?) 14:26, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I'm not sure. Another thing on my mind is that you said at the end of January that you wouldn't be getting renamed in the foreseeable future during this discusison, then again that was 4 months ago. Perhaps another bureaucrat (who is feeling more decisive) could take a look at this request? WjBscribe 14:54, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rudget, you don't seem bothered either way so probably best to stick rather than twist? The Rambling Man (talk) 15:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're probably right, the only sticking point now is I look indecisive, for want of a better word. Thanks for both your input. Rudget (Help?) 15:03, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done The Rambling Man (talk) 15:07, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guillermo → EL Willy

 Done. WjBscribe 12:41, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
