And calling it "other appearances" doesn't make it less of a trivia section. --[[Special:Contributions/66.129.135.114|66.129.135.114]] ([[User talk:66.129.135.114|talk]]) 20:01, 10 June 2008 (UTC) |

Tvinson: The miniseries change which is seemingly subtle shows a complete misunderstanding of the quote. The original quote is against taking an action. The original quote is against the actively engaging in fearful thoughts which kills your mind. I will not "fear"(verb). The subtle change to I must not fear means that you should never have fear. If you don't fear how can you let it pass over you. It was a minor change, but I am glad this post pointed it out.
This is clearly copyrighted material, from the book Dune (novel). It is also quoted extensively on the web, without any apparent action being taken (why would they, when it's free advertising?). Could we make a fair-use argument for its inclusion here? If so, should it be merged with the novel and/or book articles, then made into a redirect? Or should it simply be listed as copyvio? I'm not familiar enough with the legal nuances here to be sure. Anyone? SWAdair | Talk 10:29, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Meesa say, merge without redirect. Meesa say, list on VfD. -- orthogonal 11:11, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- I've added a cultural reference which might just save it from genre obscurity... Just MHO. Radagast 02:47, Aug 8, 2004 (UTC)
- I'd say if merge and redirect with Bene Gesserit. Redirects are better than outright deletion. And a quote from a book sound cool under "fair use." --GaidinBDJ 22:14, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)
Fair use (in general) covers posting of material, with appropriate credit to source, for the purpose of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship or research. Provided that the reproduction does not serve to provide profit to those posting or reading the information, and that those viewing the information had a prior interest in the information for research or educational purposes. --Aces & Eights 05:43, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
The Litany against Fear has reached the status of cultural-iconhood, keep it as its own article. Tarinth 20:07, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Tarinth. I was Googling for this using some lines I remembered and was glad I found a Wikipedia article devoted specifically to the Litany. Definitely keep it! And it seems also to fall under fair use as a short quote from a book. It's a great little article. Interesting, focused, succinct. Hat's off to the people who made it. Tvinson: is Wiki an educational resource. I am no patent lawyer but it is my understanding that quoting for educational purposes is different from quoting for comercial purposes.
