Nietzschean link? Really?
"Friedrich Nietzsche's concept of going beyond the limited types of human beings that have so far existed by loving Dionysian vitality and life ("the mother") while rejecting Apollonian systems and traditions ("the father")."
This is wrong or misleading in what the two gods represent in the works of Nietzsche. Neither god is necessarily those things. The Dionysian is the indulgence in more primal urges. Apollonian is mans aspirations for great things. Both can be "vitality and life". Perhaps this should be rewritten. (139.57.206.54 05:16, 17 April 2007 (UTC))
Is it worth noting that there are two different versions of the song out there?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.153.243.180 (talk • contribs)
- It may already be there, but what two versions are you talking about? When did the second version appear? Also, remember to sign comments using three or four tildes (~~~~) Thank you. 216.37.227.92 00:59, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe he's referring to the version on the Apocalypse Now soundtrack, which excises some parts of the song, including the spoken word middle. Spartacusprime 19:42, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
There are several versions of this song that have been released by The Doors and other audience recordings in circulation. Jim Morrison generally improvised the lyrics while performing The End. There is only one studio recorded version.
Isn't there a censored and an uncensored version? (The censored version excising the profane chant during the crescendo near the end.) 24.6.182.227 00:00, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Bass Line
I-V-VIII? VIII is not used in music theory. If this is supposed to be an octave higher than I it is still I, or perhaps it is a typo for VII.
- The Doors could play an VIII with their amps cranked up to 11. 64.66.67.161 18:29, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Haha very funny. no but i just listened to this song, it is I-V-I-V etc., so i changed the article. Trobert 20:10, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
"Blue Bus" was most likely referring to 10 mg blue numorphan tabs - at the time a popular drug nicknamed the "Blue Bus". Similar to Vicodin in effect.

More critical commentary than encyclopedia article
A lot of unsourced POV opinion in this article. A fine essay, but is it encyclopedic? I would recommend a thorough clean up. Seaphoto 16:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
"F***"
The word "FUCK" is not herd on the end of the song. I downloaded it on I-TUNES and did not hear it
On every studio issue of this song, I believe the Oedipous section is the same: "Father." "Yes son?" "I want to kill you. And mother...I want to..." and then he just screams. However, about nine minutes into the CD version I own you can clearly and audibly hear Morrison say the word fuck about fifteen or twenty times. This is not the same on every issue. On the cassette version my dad aquired sometime in the 80's they all but edited this part out. You can barely hear him say it if you listen closely, but if this is how it sounded on the original vinyl edition from 1967 (and I'm guessing it is) then I doubt many people knew about it at the time unless someone found out by coincidence and word of mouth spread.
Blenders 50 Worst Songs List
Why is it that every time I add that this is on that list someone deletes that? It is on the list. If you are going to delete that you might as well delete that it was on Rolling Stone magazines 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
- it sickens me but the brain dead idiots who know nothing about music put it at the 26th worst song ever. [1]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.156.66.110 (talk) 09:22, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

"Taking a Face From the Ancient Gallery"
This probably is a Roman allusion, because Roman families often kept death masks of their ancestors in a place of honor (an "ancient gallery").
Fair use rationale for Image:TheDoorsTheDoorsalbumcover.jpg
Image:TheDoorsTheDoorsalbumcover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
