Hollywood Records is a record label owned by the Walt Disney Company. It mainly focuses on pop music, although they do include some metalcore bands. The label was started in 1989 and initially distributed by Elektra Records in the US and Canada until 1995 when distribution switched to PolyGram (which became Universal Music Group in 1998.) Hollywood Records also releases many film soundtracks from films made by Disney or Disney-owned film studios.

Together with Lyric Street Records, Mammoth Records and Walt Disney Records, it is as of 2008 part of the Disney Music Group. The label has been criticised for showing favoritism towards their younger artists while giving less promotion to their more mature acts.[citation needed]

Before launching his career within labels, Abbey was employed by MTV as its Senior Vice President of Music & Talent. In his current role, Abbey has worked to create and cultivate a roster of pop and rock stars. In July 2007 CDVU+ was announced as a new way to see music.
