Hinder is an American band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that was formed in 2001 by drummer Cody Hanson, guitarist Joe 'Blower' Garvey, and Singer Austin Winkler. They released their first EP titled "Far From Close" on an independent record label, Brickden Records. It sold about 5,000 copies. The three members then began working on new material in 2004 for their next independent release. These demos caught the attention of several major record labels.
History
In April 2003, before making it big, Hinder entered the March Bandness contest for Clear Channel's 94.7 The Buzz in Oklahoma City. They made it to the Final Four out of a field of thirty-two, ultimately losing to the OKC group Falcon Five-O.
Hinder entered the rock scene with their debut single "Get Stoned". The band then toured in support of their album, Extreme Behavior. The band's second single, "Lips of an Angel", did far better on the charts, hitting #1 on several, and garnered international attention. "Lips of an Angel" is now being covered by country artist Jack Ingram. The band's third single from their debut album is "How Long". The fourth single is "Better Than Me" and the fifth is "Homecoming Queen."
Extreme Behavior: 2005-Present
After being offered record deals by Atlantic, Roadrunner, and Universal Records, Hinder signed with Universal records in 2005. Although Allmusic called Extreme Behavior one of the year's worst albums, throughout 2005 the album was heavily anticipated, and Hinder won the monthly Launch "Who's Next" contest for emerging bands.[citation needed] Brian Howes and Mike Fraser produced album, Extreme Behavior, was then set for release in the United States. The single ""Get Stoned" from Extreme Behavior was also released on iTunes as a free Single of the Week in August 2005.
"Extreme Behavior" track "Shoulda" was originally written and recorded by Canadian band Social Code for their "A Year At The Movies" album, but was scrapped when finalizing the album. The song was brought to Hinder by Universal when trying to finish up their album. They re-wrote portions of the songs to fit their sound and style and decided to use it on the album.
As a Christmas gift to their fanclub the Hinder Army, Hinder recorded "A Little Drummer Boy" and released it on http://www.thehinderarmy.com
In October 2007, Hinder released their limited edition cd/dvd of Extreme Behavior entitled "You Can't Make This Sh*t Up".
In 2007, Hinder received Oklahoma's Rising Star Award.
Tour for the Troops
June 23 2008: In a special concert presented by Navy Entertainment and Armed Forces Entertainment, Hinder played for the troops on NSA (Naval Support Activity) Bahrain. The following day June 24 2008 Hinder played for approximately 2500 Navy and Marine troops onboard the US Navy Amphibious Ship USS Peleliu.
June 26 2008: Hinder made an extra stop in NAS (Naval Air Station) Sigonella to play a concert.
Take it to the Limit
Announced on their tour and in several interviews, a new album is in the works, with a song titled "Thing for You." This song was performed during the Bad Boys of Rock Tour. They played the song "Running in the Rain," which was cut from the US release of "Extreme Behavior," and they also played the new song called "Heaven Lost You".
According to an interview on the website Ultimate-Guitar, Hinder are expected to return to the studio to record their new album in January 2008. [1] Hinder is now (April 2008) recording their new album and have finished with 6 of their songs. They plan to go on tour once they have completed their album. The first single "Use Me", was released on July 15th, 2008 and has peaked at #9 on the US Mainstream Rock Tracks. Their new album, Take It To The Limit is to be released on November 4th, 2008.
