Neil Cicierega

Neil Stephen Cicierega (born August 23, 1986), is an American comedian, filmmaker and musician. He is the creator of a genre of Flash animation known as "Animutation". He also performs as a musician. Cicierega lives in Kingston, Massachusetts, United States.

Animutation

Neil Cicierega is the creator of a genre of surrealist Flash animation known as Animutation. Animutation features arbitrary, nonsensical scenes and pop culture imagery, somewhat resembling the animation style of Terry Gilliam. These scenes are typically set to foreign or novelty music, often Japanese. Most of his early Animutations used music from the original Japanese version of Pokémon.

Animutations found online popularity in early 2001 with Cicierega's "Hyakugojyuuichi", and the genre soon developed a cult following. Over the following years, a community of Flash animators began making their own animations inspired by Cicierega's works.

Cicierega himself made about 20 Animutations between 2001 and 2003, but for the most part abandoned the genre.

Cicierega's Potter Puppet Pals is a comedy series which parodies Harry Potter. It originated as a pair of Flash animations on Newgrounds.com in 2003, and later resurfaced in the form of a series of live action puppet shows released onto YouTube in 2006.

The Mysterious Ticking Noise

"The Mysterious Ticking Noise", released in 2007, is the 17th most-viewed video on YouTube with over 50 million views (As of October 2008). The video was nominated and won[1] in the Comedy category in the 2007 YouTube Awards with 33.6% of the votes in that category.[2]

Lemon Demon

Neil Cicierega

Neil Cicierega also releases music and performs it live under the name of "Lemon Demon", previously known as both "Trapezoid" and "Deporitaz". His music typically falls under the genres of power pop, geek rock, or novelty music.

Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny

On December 22, 2005, Lemon Demon and animator Shawn Vulliez released the Flash music video Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny on Newgrounds.com. The video features dozens of famous people and fictional characters, largely from 1980s and 1990s pop culture in a large century-long brawl where "...only one will survive."[3]

The video was featured as the Newgrounds daily feature on December 23, and the weekly user's choice on December 28; it has since been released on Flash Portal, Albino Blacksheep, Transbuddha, Weebl's Stuff, and eventually its own fan-created site at UltimateShowdown.org. The song topped the weekly "Funny Five" and became #1 of 2006 on the Dr. Demento Show. The song itself was later included on Lemon Demon's fifth album, Dinosaurchestra.

The New Kids on the Rock

In addition to the Potter Puppet Pals skits, Cicierega adds regular video content to his YouTube channel.

He has worked on videos with fellow Massachusetts internet film makers and close friends Kevin James, Ryan Murphy, Max Pacheco, and J.L. Carrozza. In 2008, Neil, Ryan, and Kevin were recently commissioned to make a series of "webisodes" for Plymouth Rock Studios. The series, called New Kids on the Rock, is a tongue-in-cheek comedy series about the trio's attempts to make webisodes for Plymouth Rock Studios.

Several of Neil's short films have been featured on television shows such as G4's Attack of the Show!, The CW's Online Nation and CBBC's Chute!
