I'm not a good photographer, so taking images at [[WP:FI]] quality is out of the question. Are points still awarded for trawling though WP's image repository and successfully nominating someone else's? Same question for sounds, do they have to be sounds that we've recorded, or just sounds we've found and nominated? : Hmm, interesting... perhaps less points would have to be given to avoid anyone doing that but I don't think that would a problem. [[User:Garden|<font color=#3333cc>'''Garden'''</font>]]. 20:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC) |

What the heck? This is an outrage! :) (I see that one just signed up for 2009, though, so that's good news!) Gary King (talk) 19:32, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- haha! Why don't you enter? weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 20:31, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Okay done. I don't know what I have to do though. Gary King (talk) 20:44, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, basically, you get points for edits, GAs, FAs, FLs, DYKs... the whole shabang, really. The rules will be much more thoroughly explained closer to the time. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 20:50, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Too bad it's not retroactive then :) Gary King (talk) 21:01, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Rule Suggestion
In the interest of not encouraging thoughtless edits, do you think it would make sense to deduct points for mainspace edits that get reverted? 1 point for mainspace edits, -5 for mainspace edits that get reverted. Good editors have nothing to fear. Just a friendly suggestion. best, maxsch (talk) 14:33, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- That's a good idea, but it would take a ridiculous amount of time to check if the mainspace edits were reverted... As a side note, it actually turns out as 0.1 points per edit, as it's divided by 10. We could try to exclude Huggle edits, but that's a difficult task as well. It's a good idea, but hard to put into practice. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 14:59, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I could bug SQL to fix up his edit counter to count Huggle edits per month rather than overall - can't promise anything, though. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 15:03, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- I see how it could be difficult. And this is just a contest for fun, so it isn't worth doing too much extra work for it. But in general I disagree with pure edit count being used as a measure of editor achievement or editor quality. It can encourage/reward the wrong kind of behavior. But perhaps this isn't the place for such concerns. Enjoy the cup! maxsch (talk) 18:47, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Scoring
Is scoring only the edits, FAs, etc during the designated time frame or does it count all your prior edits too? — Rlevse • Talk • 16:02, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Only those promoted within the allocated two months per round. :) weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 16:09, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- I assume that means only edits during the round count, for all points. — Rlevse • Talk • 16:13, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

ITN
Do ITN features have the same points as DYK? SpencerT♦C 19:21, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. Yes they do. iMatthew (talk) 19:22, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for your help! SpencerT♦C 19:28, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Question
It says on the page, 25 points per Good article greatly contributed to (at least 25 edits). As I have written most of my GAs in less than 15 or 20 edits, I wouldn't qualify? Would I have to make a bunch of typos so I can increase my edit count on the article?? :P –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:43, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- I guess so :) Gary King (talk) 03:26, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- Your GAs have to be promoted in the given time to qualify anyway, so those wouldn't count ;) Also, I guess that if you are the main contributor (maybe 80 to 100%) on one article even if there are only 20 edits or so total. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 21:14, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- Do the contestants have to submit the articles they have worked on or the judges will check on them themselves? Gary King (talk) 21:16, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it would be an idea, certainly. Previously we simply asked the competitors to add the scores in themselves, but it would certainly be a good idea to get the names of the articles to double-check. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 21:35, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- Oh I see; where's the page for the scores? Gary King (talk) 21:42, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Heh
No French entrants this year?! Ha! weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 10:31, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, from the looks of it, no one has ever been France (unless I missed it)... jj137 (talk) 23:29, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well I have to say I've missed this thing entirely! :) --Candlewicke (Talk) 01:45, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Why are only FAs counted?
What about other types of featured content? Maxim(talk) 23:02, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps it becomes much more complex for the scoring team? I don't know, but you'd think that GAs or FLs would work, too. Useight (talk) 23:13, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Not really, it's a matter of the competitor reporting their nomination. Maxim(talk) 23:41, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well if it's self-reported, then that can't be the reason. Useight (talk) 23:55, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- IMHO FLs and GAs aren't as difficult (but they still are) to get as FAs, but now that I think about it, I think they should count too. jj137 (talk) 00:30, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to talk to WBOSITG on IRC whenever he logs on. iMatthew (talk) 00:40, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've got a bit more FLs than FAs so I'd like FLs (and FTs!) to be counted. Gary King (talk) 02:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
What about me? I'm primarily active in Featured Sounds, and I believe Durova primarily acts in Featured pictures. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 03:31, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Whoa, whoa, whoa. That should read "FC". Don't worry :) weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 18:38, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- The points for each type are pretty randomly chosen. FL has the least respect :( Gary King (talk) 18:54, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, bt to be honest FLs are around the same difficulty as GAs. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 18:55, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Any chance you could increase the points for FSs a bit? Because, frankly, we could really use more people working on them, and I'm not opposed to social engineering by competition. =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 19:02, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Only as long as FLs go up! :) I'd have more FLs than GAs if they were easier... probably. Gary King (talk) 19:04, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, an FL is only (well, I say only...) a list of facts and figures whereas a GA needs a lot of prose and more reliable sources. I would personally rate them the same difficulty, having worked on both types before. And @shoe - maybe. :) weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 19:09, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- I just realized that this tournament starts sometime in 2009? That's a long time from now! I guess I don't have to think about it too much for the time being. Gary King (talk) 19:13, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- lol! Yeah, it does, so not really a big deal at this stage. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 19:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Registration is open kind of early then since a lot of people's situations will surely change by the time this begins. But, we'll see :) Gary King (talk) 19:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- That could prove a problem, but hopefully we have enough cover for that situation. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 19:20, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have some Featured Userpages and Featured Monobooks, as well as a few Featured Scripts and a couple Featured Preferences. Do those count at all? jj137 (talk) 21:47, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

What happens to last season's results?
Do they get moved to a subpage? --Pwnage8 (talk) 23:19, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Useight, yes that is them on the main page, but my question was whether they would be moved to a subpage, and IMatthew has answered it. --Pwnage8 (talk) 04:27, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

GA/FA
Question: If a new GA is promoted to FA in time would I be correct in assuming that points are given for both? --Candlewicke (Talk) 15:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Featured sounds and images
I'm not a good photographer, so taking images at WP:FI quality is out of the question. Are points still awarded for trawling though WP's image repository and successfully nominating someone else's? Same question for sounds, do they have to be sounds that we've recorded, or just sounds we've found and nominated? Matthewedwards (talk • contribs • email) 16:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Question
Just a quick question. Although it is a state, is it okay if I represent Massachusetts? Thanks in advance for any responce. RedThunder 11:31, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well we do have some people representing other places that aren't considered a "country" I don't think it'd be a problem. Go right ahead. iMatthew (talk) 11:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Rulebook
Do you have a rulebook that would put an end to lots of questions over mere technicalities? Perhaps one ought to be written... --Candlewicke (Talk) 02:14, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- No, that is why there are so many questions being asked. Perhaps it would be wise to create an FAQ or something along those lines. Sunderland06 (talk) 02:25, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
