Yogyakarta region is one of province that was known as central of Java custom and central of education in Indonesia. STMIK AMIKOM Yogyakarta is placed in central city with distance 4 km from Adi Sucipto International Airport Yogyakarta Indonesia. Students of STMIK AMIKOM Yogyakarta are from many province in Indonesia even has students from abroad.
In the last tree years, STMIK AMIKOM Yogyakarta got awards for research in information technology and international communication sector such as APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC), Asia Pacific Awards (APICTA). Beside them, STMIK AMIKOM Yogyakarta also got awards from National Department like Sumitomo Award, Indosat Wireless Innovation Contest, Information Technology Federation of Indonesia and Indonesian Telematics Software Association.
There are several unit of students activity to appreciate their intend and skill, science even entrepreneur ability, such as sports (units of nature, taekwondo, football, kempo, basketball), journalistic, theater, music, computer and multimedia and also religion.
There are some facility support for students such as mosque, canteen, health center, academic consultation, hotspot and internet.

STMIK AMIKOM Yogyakarta has some competitive superiority that will support graduates to compete in global market. They are:

- Supported by lectures with competency in their sect and also international certification
- Having many unit business as working laboratory to provide graduated with real experience in working world, such as:
- Television studio (RBTV) that be in TV broadcasting sect, is a place for students to study in operating television station, activity program planning, production, post-production and broadcasting.
- Radio studio (MQFM) that can be a place for students to study many things about radio broadcasting.
- Internet & Computer Service Company (PT. Time Excelindo-ISP and Computer Shop), is a business unit that be a place for students to work and operating study for ISP, web hosting, web design, network administration, online system, and data communication, also computer retail, maintenance and service
- Animation, Multimedia and Broadcast Company (MSV) is a business unit for students to develop ability in operating multimedia business, such as cartoon film production, company profile, media planner, TV Commercial and TV Program.
- Software Development Company, IT Training (PT. Gits Solution), is a business unit for students to develop their skill related with software development.
- Having International Study Program such as Cisco Certified Networking Academy and Oracle Certified Academy
- Having laboratory to support skill development
- Having superior program to support soft skill development
