Fantasy Ride is the upcoming third studio album by American R&B/pop singer Ciara. LaFace Records, in collaboration with Zomba Label Group and Sony Music Entertainment will release the album in early 2009. Originally, Fantasy Ride was set to be released December 9, 2008.[2][3] The album is now set to be released in April 2009.[4][5]

The album's promo single, "Go Girl", which features T-Pain, was released September 30, 2008. The first official single, "Never, Ever", which features Young Jeezy, was released on January 5, 2009.

Ciara confirmed that the album includes appearances by Young Jeezy, T-Pain, Ludacris, The-Dream, and Missy Elliott. Due to leaked songs it is unknow if there will be anymore guest appearances.

Background

In early 2008, Ciara began working on her third album. She became executive producer of the album, with LaFace A&R coordinator Mark Pitts and music producer Tricky Stewart. First, Ciara completed recording sessions with producers Tricky Stewart, Danja, Jasper Cameron, and The-Dream.[6][7] The Crunktown and Kingdom of Dance discs are being helmed by Danja, while the Groove City disc is overseen by Stewart and Jasper Cameron.[6]

Near the album's deadline, Ciara scheduled recording sessions with Bloodshy & Avant, Scott Storch and Jim Jonsin.[8] In an interview, Ciara stated that she collaborated with Justin Timberlake.[9]

Music

Fantasy Ride is scheduled to be released as an eclectic three-disc album, with five or six stylistically similar songs per disc. The first disc, entitled Groove City, features slow jams similar to Ciara's Evolution single, "Promise". The second disc, Crunktown, includes crunk-influenced tracks reminiscent of "Goodies". The third disc, Kingdom of Dance, has up-tempo house and freestyle cuts.[6] It is unknown if she will continue with the tripple disc after the albums push backs and leaks.

Super C

Fantasy Ride introduces Ciara's alter-ego, "Super C". Ciara said that Super C is a character she becomes when she performs onstage and in her music videos. The Super C character is set to become a major factor in Fantasy Ride promotion. She is a futuristic superhero-esque Ciara, based on the robotic character Ciara portrayed in the "Go Girl" music video.

DC Comics artist Bernard Chang helped Ciara create the alter-ego for the album artwork. Ciara said she worked on the artwork about nine months to a year.[10]

Promotion and releases

In September 2008, Ciara promoted the forthcoming release of the album at Austell's Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park, with her parents and fans in attendance. For the day, the roller coaster Goliath was renamed Fantasy Ride. Ciara also met fans and signed autographs.[11]

A Fantasy Ride track, "Slow Down", which features rapper 50 Cent, was released on the internet. Ciara announced that she will release a Fantasy Ride mixtape.[12] Also, Ciara covered Beyoncé's single "Diva" for the mixtape.[13]

Singles

"High Price", a song featuring Ludacris, was originally planned as the album's first single,[2], but the track leaked prematurely and was supplanted by "Go Girl". "High Price" ranked at number seventy-three on Rolling Stone's "Single of the Year" list[14]. The single for "Go Girl" was released September 30, 2008. The music video was directed by Melina Matsoukas. It debuted at sixty on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart,[15] and peaked at twenty-six.[16] The song also spent one week on the Hot 100, at seventy-eight,[17] and peaked at eighty on the Pop 100.[18]

"Never, Ever" is a song produced by Polow da Don and co-written by Ciara and Elvis “BlacElvis” Williams. The song features Young Jeezy, and is scheduled to be released as the album's new lead single on January 5, 2009, in preparation for the album's release in early 2009.[19]
