Gary Husband

Gary Husband (born 14 June 1960 in Leeds) is an English jazz and rock drummer and composer who performs with artists such as Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin, Level 42 and Jack Bruce among many others. He initially trained as a classical pianist and is accomplished as a jazz instrumentalist;[1] he fronts his own projects between touring and recording commitments. For years, his own jazz piano project was a trio that included Mick Hutton on bass and Gene Calderazzo on drums.[2] His influences for his jazz piano work come mostly from the jazz fusion genre. One of his solo album releases, The Things I See, is made up of interpretations of Allan Holdsworth music.[3] His latest group is called Gary Husband's Drive.

Progressive metal drummer Sean Reinert has cited Husband as one of many drummers who have influenced him.[4] Billy Cobham called Husband's keyboard skill "one of the best-kept secrets in music".[5] Music critic John Fordham of The Guardian described Husband's piano playing on one of his solo jazz albums as "an onrush of long-lined phrases and ambiguous harmonies boldly adapted from Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans."[6]
