AGV Sport Group is a corporation headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC in the US. AGV Sports Group, Inc. designs, develops, and produces motorcycle safety apparel ranging from affordable entry level models to world class high end road race gear.

History

Founded in 1985 by Michael Parrotte, AGV Sports Group is one of the oldest rider-owned and operated apparel companies in the motorcycle industry.

AGV Sports Group was born in the early days of AGV helmets entry into the North American market. AGV helmets and AGV Sports Group are two completely autonomous companies, one Italian and one American, bound by a common history and the great heritage of the world and sport of motorcycle racing.

In 1978 AGV USA, a division of Intersport, Inc. in Maryland became the official importer of AGV Helmets for the United States. In 1985 AGV SpA (AGV Helmets, Italy) assumed the distribution rights in the US t AGV Helmets and Intersport, Inc. was licensed the right to make apparel and other products excluding helmets worldwide bearing the AGV name and trademark. From 1985 to 1999 AGV Sports Group and AGV Helmets US office operated from the same offices and warehouse and utilized the name employees.

By 1990 the name AGV Sports Group or AGVSPORT was being used on all apparel items including leather gloves, suits, jackets, boots, and textile garments and AGV Sports Group, Inc. was formed as fully owned subsidiary of Intersport, Inc. For a brief period in the early 1990’s AGV SpA owned approximately 50% of the shares of AGV Sports Group, Inc. but by 1995 full ownership reverted to Intersport, Inc.

During the 1990s AGV SpA was sold several times and went through a number of mergers and acquisitions. In 2001 AGVSPORT became a fully independent brand name belonging AGV Sports Group, Inc. a privately held American corporation. Today AGV Helmets is owned by the famed Italian apparel company Dainese.

AGV Sports Group products have consistently won best in class awards from numerous motorcycle publications around the world. A high tech “helmet” mentality drives the development of most of the AGV Sports Group’s products. AGV Sports Group provides motorcyclist with a line of both affordable entry level products as well as world class high end products hand crafted in Italy.
