Footnotes

  1. ^ This includes all goals scored in all games prior to 1890–91 and only those scored in "competitive" games after 1890–91.
  2. ^ This figure pertains to league matches only. All statistics referenced from Ross' The Roar of the Crowd, except seasons 2004–05, 2005–06 and 2006–07.
  3. ^ Hearts were unable to fulfil a fixture away to Morton due to war-time restrictions. As the match would not affect final placings it was not rescheduled and both teams finished the campaign having played only 37 games.
  4. ^ Although the Scottish Cup was suspended between the years 1916 and 1919, a one-off tournament featuring a similar format, called the Victory Cup, was played during the 1918-1919 season. Hearts reached the final, where they were defeated 3-0 by St. Mirren.
  5. ^ The Scottish League started as scheduled this season but was suspended on 4th September. Several temporary wartime leagues were introduced to fill the gap, with Hearts competing in the North Eastern League.
  6. ^ An end of season Cup competition was introduced on 1940-41, called the Southern League Cup. Hearts reaching the first final and losing in a replay to Rangers. This became the League Cup in 1946-47.
  7. ^ From 2007–08 The 'Top Clubs' entered in the 4th round of the Cup due to expansion of the competition. This was still the last 32 equivalent to the 3rd round the previous year.
