Template of sadness

Hey Gonzo - good work finding this error and correcting it! The articles with Template:YU_Roshei_Yeshiva will fix themselves eventually. However, it can take a few minutes to a few days because the Wikimedia job queues are processed separately by dedicated servers. To manually fix the articles, you can go to each one (one at a time I'm afraid) and do a purge: just add "?action=edit" to the end of the URL and press enter. Also, have fun at the meetup! I'm going to my first in February too. FlyingToaster 23:36, 4 February 2009 (UTC) [reply]

OTRS

The template you named is the Commons version. I was referring to {{ConfirmationImageOTRS}}. Since only users with OTRS access can confirm permission has been given, they are the only ones who can add that template. One of the other templates in Category:OTRS templates is used to inform others that the claim has been made. - Mgm|(talk) 20:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Leonard Stanley

I'll see if I can dig up a bit more on Leonard Stanley, although the British -History Online article will make a good source. Good find :). FlowerpotmaN·(t) 22:06, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! I'd guess there's a fair bit of useful stuff there. Looks like the village has at least a school and football club, so there should be lots out there. The name sounds kind of like a 70s third-division footballer, though :) Gonzonoir (talk) 22:54, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Got a Mavis Enderby and Old Bolingbroke feel about the name for me. Yeah, seems to be a population in the hundreds all right. Useless trivia: it was the ancestral home of Billy Butlin. I'll fiddle with the article if I think about it over the weekend. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 21:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of James Chippendale

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article James Chippendale, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Is there really any sound evidence of notability here?

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orange Mike | Talk 17:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I templated you because I wanted more than one set of eyes here. I only really consider the fourth item a solid source; the others are more or less fluffy (especially the third, which is a blog). --Orange Mike | Talk 18:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I'm not that much of a deletionist; AfD would be overdoing it at this stage. Just clean it up, and maybe let me know when you think it's properly cleansed; then we can discuss it. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:22, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fairway

The redirect was exactly the way to go. It preserves, not destroys, the page history. I've reinstated it. DGG (talk) 20:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - are you absolutely sure? The Fairway Markets had the longer page history, but is now just a redirect, while Fairway Market singular was created only today and had very little history. I think it should be the other way round. Gonzonoir (talk) 20:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes,we can reverse it. Personally, I dont think its worth the trouble--see WP:MOVE. Some people may think it matters. If you want, ask at WP:RM, I won't object. The main thing anyway is to build up the article, because i think it will be nominated for deletion by people who do not realize the importance. DGG (talk) 21:42, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see Cunard requested (and Anthony Appleyard carried out) a history merge last night, so looks like all's well that ends well. I'll see if I can find some material to build it up over the weekend. Gonzonoir (talk) 09:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still learning Wikipedia formatting, so excuse me if I'm not looking completely professional on this talk page! Anyways, I am helping the Fairway Market page grow. I have the correct logo with white background as a jpg. Is this the person to come to, to help me get that uploaded into the infobox? Would you want it on a server to download if you are able to help? (looks like I need help from an administrator) Thanks! Meverbeaver (talk) 14:57, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I actually haven't read it yet, though I bought it over Christmas. I don't want to read your article before I've read the book and taken notes on it. I've added it to my watchlist and I'll get back to it in due time.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:44, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Problem

Hello! Your submission of The Trouble With Normal (book) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Re Sandcastles, or maybe just mud

Hey Gonzo! Yeah, just go ahead and copy/paste things from sandbox. The move function is really only for when you want to create a redirect, and when you move a page one is created automatically (as you correctly said). So, if you tried to move from a sandbox, you'd either get an error or a pretty messed up redirect. It's true that your history is gone when you copy/paste, but it's rare to get more than one contributor working together in a sandbox, so it's not really a big deal. By the way, many congrats on getting into DYK! You are plunging into WP fast and furious, and are thus my hero. Let me know if you want me to look over an article before it goes to FA/GA as a first-run edit. :) FlyingToaster 08:59, 18 February 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Day of Reflection

hi there, appreciate the material is copied from the website largely, no issues with IP abound, but have not worked out how to sort this as yet, will carry on editing it, and hopefully will convince your good self of the validity of the content. it is relevant to the history of Northern ireland and will be making wiki teams in both North and South Ireland aware of the page.

Mny thanks, and your patience would be much appreciated —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anguslambkin (talkcontribs) 15:24, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there: Thanks for your message. It looks like a topic about which we should have an article, but we can't accept copyrighted material under any circumstances. Material from other sources has to be available for use under the GFDL. For now, I've removed all the content replicated from the source website. You're free now to rebuild the article, with reference to the material on the other site - or if you can show it satisfies the GFDL, to restore it. Gonzonoir (talk) 15:33, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Will get on it, GFDL might be a bit of a stretch, but sure I can work around the copyright stuff. many thanks for your help, and for adding the page on references, and see also —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anguslambkin (talkcontribs) 15:51, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're doing some good stuff over there - thanks. I saw you mentioned on the article talk page that you're finding references a bit confusing. Want any help with that? Gonzonoir (talk) 11:04, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I am getting there on the references stuff, took the tutorial a bit late on, one might say, but many thanks, with any luck will get it ship shape and it can then be edited, rather than considered worthy of deletion. many thanks, and your input would of course be great on the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anguslambkin (talkcontribs) 12:30, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great! In that case, just one tip: you should sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes ~~~~, to help readers keep track of who said what. Gonzonoir (talk) 14:20, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at Harvey Milk

I have added discussion at Talk:Harvey Milk about the need for WP:SUMMARY style and refactoring. This speaks to Legacy of Harvey Milk and its AfD. I believe that your comment on AfD that the refactoring was done too hastily and too sloppily is correct. However, I have now cleaned up the child article, have included a relevant summary in the main article section (rather than just a link), and have created the talk page thread about details. I would value your participation in any parts of this. LotLE×talk 21:26, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, just to clarify, I am not the editor who did the initial split of the article; I simply noticed it had happened, and realized the basic virtue to the idea. LotLE×talk 21:27, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi LotLE - I've contributed to the RFC. I think your general approach is good, but in this particular case it looks like the article would be better off in one piece. You did great work on the child article, though, and thanks for getting in touch. Gonzonoir (talk) 10:57, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, I see what happened. To find out if this person was notable or not, I googled him. I accidently typed in "reza wasashi" instead of "reza washahi", so I came up with 6 search results, none having anything to do with him. I'll get rid of the WP:HOAX allegation. FingersOnRoids 21:34, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi there - thanks for your message. I've done a bit of tidying of your addition to the List of British Iranians. As I said on your page, the best way to make sure this person finds a place on Wikipedia is to provide reliable sources that reference him. That might be newspaper or journal articles, books, and so on. If you have some of those, I can help you add them to the article. If none are added, it's not possible to establish that this person is a good candidate for an encyclopedia article, and the article will probably be deleted in five days' time. How about you let me know where we can find good references, and I can introduce you to adding them to Wikipedia? Gonzonoir (talk) 22:00, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Got it, thanks. I am watching the article, so I'll see any links if you add them there. (You might also want to add material and rationale to the article's talk page. One last tip: on talk pages (but not article pages), you should sign your comments by typing four tildes: ~~~~. It helps readers to keep track. Gonzonoir (talk) 22:23, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Many thanks for all your help, what will happen to this page? can we keep him at least on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Iranians#List
You're welcome. The page has been nominated for deletion because an editor thinks it doesn't demonstrate notability. The debate now stays open for five days, and editors are asked to discuss whether they think the page should remain in light of our policies on notability. At the end of the period an administrator will assess the debate and decide whether there is consensus to delete the article. If the page is deleted then unfortunately the entry on List of British Iranians should be removed too. That's a list of notable British Iranians, and the grounds for deletion at the current discussion is that this person is not notable.
If this does happen, don't lose hope. If this organization and its founder continue to operate and garner mainstream attention, they will eventually gain enough coverage to have an article here. And I hope you've found your experience on Wikipedia so far interesting: you may want to consider contributing to WikiProject Human rights, since you obviously have a strong interest in this area. I am sure they would love to have you. Gonzonoir (talk) 11:13, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, you're right, I was intending to write a lead, but then I realized that the whole article basically might be a copyvio. I pressed save article, without thinking, and ended up removing the lead and saying in the edit that I rewrote the article lead without actually doing it. So do you know if content in another language put through Babelfish still applies to copyvios? Because I put a french web page through, and it's almost an identical copy of the article. Thanks FingersOnRoids 22:47, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The link is http://whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/4016/. I don't know, I guess babelfish did a pretty good job with this one, because the stuff that comes out is pretty readable.FingersOnRoids 22:54, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

McAwans

Dude, this group have huge importance and your deleting the page for no sense! at McAwans

Thanks for your comment. On the AfD, you'll see that we're considering deleting the article because there appears to be no substantial coverage in reliable, third-party, secondary sources of the group's signficance. We need that coverage to establish notability. If you know of any such sources, please add them to the article or to the AfD discussion. Thanks. Gonzonoir (talk) 10:46, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP RS

If you are trying to keep tabs of this issue - there are articles long untouched that need the tag - brand new arts - in a series - nah - not worth the edit imho - just use popups - 3 year old ed with 40,000 + eds - probably over a 1,000 arts with either a tag or my request for WP:RS on the talk page - nah - but hey keep at it anyways SatuSuro 13:51, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there - thanks for the message. I guess you're referring to this edit at Hamengkubuwana II? I added the tag to the article you created during new page patrol; I'm inclined to see this kind of tagging as worthwhile, since references are critical for notability. If the tag's added to a new page, it usefully includes the article on clean-up lists, increasing the likelihood that someone will come along and add the reference, or - for hoax pages - the likelihood that someone nominate it for AfD if no sources are forthcoming after a few days. Glad you had the references to hand to add to yours, anyway. Cheers. Obviously yours was going to turn out fine anyway, but new page tagging at least helps to prevent those three-year-old unreferenced monstrosities from developing in the first place :) Gonzonoir (talk) 16:07, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good answer but you miss the point - check the user with the pop up as well and you can save yourself responses from the more experienced user who is block free and been around long enough to simply take a few minutes to fix the problem anyways - take care! SatuSuro 23:18, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ah, OK. Certainly didn't mean to cause offence - sorry about that. I'll be more careful in future, though I guess you can always add the references before publishing the article if the prospect of getting tagged really bothers you. Gonzonoir (talk) 08:43, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yup I have been doing that with the series i am trying slowly to get up - thanks for the reminder - nah no offence - nah i was trying to suggest that looking at an ed info on popups or whatever tool you have can make the diff as to how you respond - you know one red link vandal or whatever - anyways best of luck cheers and keep up the good work SatuSuro 12:59, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for setting up the redirect on National cancer intelligence network

Hi,

Thanks for redirecting 'National cancer intelligence network' to 'National Cancer Intelligence Network'. I guess I need to study the wiki guides a bit more!

You're welcome! And don't worry about it. Your hunch on what to do was exactly right; finding your way around the actual techniques always takes time. If you're interested in some help to learn more, you might want to consider the Wikipedia user adoption programme. I'm in it, and it's doing the trick for me :) Gonzonoir (talk) 13:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the adoption programme sounds interesting. I'll check it out... Shepherd22 (talk) 14:02, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Helping with image

Hello! Thanks for the help on the Fairway Market logo. Now I'm trying to fix one last image, and I think I did this one differently. (and I'm getting messages saying I did something wrong!) If you have a chance....thanks!
