Fantasy Ride is the upcoming third studio album by American R&B/pop singer Ciara. Jive Records, in collaboration with Zomba Label Group and Sony Music Entertainment will release the album on May 5, 2009. Ciara confirmed
on Power 105.1 fm radio station that the album will be world wide release and it is not going to change.[3] A promo single, "Go Girl", which features T-Pain, was released September 30, 2008. Cite error: The <ref>
tag has too many names (see the help page). The official first single, "Never Ever", which features Young Jeezy, was released in January 2009. The second single , "Love Sex Magic", which features Justin Timberlake, was released in March 2009. Ciara confirmed that currently the album includes appearances by Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake.
Background
In early 2008, Ciara began working on her third album. She became executive producer of the album, with LaFace A&R coordinator Mark Pitts and music producer Tricky Stewart. First, Ciara completed recording sessions with producers Tricky Stewart, Danja, Jasper Cameron, and The-Dream.[4][5] The Crunktown disc will feature and Kingdom of Dance discs are being helmed by Danja, while the Groove City disc is overseen by Stewart and Jasper Cameron.[4]
Near the album's deadline in 2008, Ciara scheduled recording sessions with Bloodshy & Avant, Scott Storch and Jim Jonsin.[6] In an interview from a concert, Ciara stated that she did two collaborations with Justin Timberlake which will appear on the album.[7][8]
Conception
Music
Ciara designed Fantasy Ride to be an eclectic three-disc album. In numerous interviews she says that she wants to take fans on a music journey. The album is conceptual in that it features three separate discs each featuring a different theme with five or six stylistically similar songs per disc.
- Groove City is the first disc and will feature ballads and slow jams such as "Never Ever" (featuring Young Jeezy) - songs stylistically similar to Ciara's Evolution single, "Promise".
- The second disc, Crunktown, includes midtempo and crunk-influenced tracks reminiscent of "Goodies" such as "High Price" (featuring Ludacris).
- Kingdom of Dance is the final disc, featuring up-tempo pop-tinged, house, and freestyle cuts such as second single "Love Sex Magic" (featuring Justin Timberlake).[4]
Super C
Fantasy Ride introduces Ciara's comic book character, "Super C". Ciara said that Super C is a character she becomes when she performs onstage and in her music videos. The Super C character is set to become a major factor in Fantasy Ride promotion. She is a futuristic superhero-esque Ciara, based on the robotic character Ciara portrayed in the "Go Girl" music video.
DC Comics artist Bernard Chang helped Ciara create the character for the album artwork. Ciara said she worked on the artwork about nine months to a year. [9]
Promotion and releases
In September 2008, Ciara promoted the forthcoming release of the album at Austell's Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park, with her parents and fans in attendance. For the day, the roller coaster Goliath was renamed Fantasy Ride. Ciara also met fans and signed autographs.[10]
Ciara made her first stage appearance since Fantasy Ride promotion began, performing at Media WildJam '08, where she previewed a few unreleased tracks from the upcoming album, as well has performed past hits. Performances included new songs "I'm On" [11], "Work"[12], "Go Girl"[13], "Explode" and "High Price" [14].
For a limited period of time UK and European customers at Footlocker where given the chance to download an exclusive remix of "Go Girl" and had the opportunity to win a meeting with Ciara in person.[15]
Ciara announced that she will release a Fantasy Ride mixtape.[16] One of the mixtape tracks, "Slow Down", which features rapper 50 Cent, was released on the internet. Also, Ciara covered the song "Diva" by Beyoncé for the mixtape.[17]
On Monday, February 23, 2009, Ciara made an appearance on BET's 106 & Park. There, she promoted the album, the new singles, and answered selected online fan questions. Ciara spoke about the controversy surrounding the track "Turntables", saying that it will be on the album, but that it might sound different in a good way. [18]
On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, Ciara was a special guest on Snoop Dogg's MTV show, "Dogg After Dark".[19]
Ciara announced in a radio interview that she is planning world-wide promotions (possibly a tour) some time from May onwards in support of the album.[20]
