Cairo American College (CAC) is an international, independent, co-educational day school, located in the Cairene suburb of Maadi in Cairo, Egypt. It has students from pre-school to grade 12. Founded in 1945, the grades are divided into Elementary (Pre-K through 5), Middle (6 through 8) and High (9 through 12) Schools. [1]

The Middle and High Schools have a block system schedule, comprising of eight classes, four per day with rotation. In Middle School and 9th grade, most of these classes are predetermined (selected courses are called electives), but in the later years of high school, more choice is offered. International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs are offered, along with college placement courses.

CAC offers extracurricular athletic activities, including a track team, swimming, basketball, baseball, volleyball, cross country, water polo, football (soccer), tennis, and intramural activities that include ultimate frisbee and flag football. CAC also hosts academic co-curriculars such as JV and Varsity Academic Games, a quiz bowl for middle and high school students to display their prowess in mathematics, history, geography and science, and a forensic debate team. There are fourteen buildings on the 11-acre campus, although changes scheduled to be completed in 2019/20. [2]

CAC also offers a service learning program. Students perform a certain number of service hours on a chosen project (from animal shelters to refugee centers to Ramadan festivities for the underprivileged), while analytical relating their experiences in a semi-weekly class. CAC also hosts an annual charity festival that invites local charities to set up fundraising booths on campus.

In a mostly favourable review, the Good Schools Guide International said that pupils at the school are "likely to be stimulated, have fun and emerge with a can-do attitude and the ability to achieve success in their chosen fields," although it also states that "it may overwhelm."[3]
