Disk jockey and deposed mayor of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. He is the source of the coup d'etat of 17 March 2009.
Political career
As the head of the movement TGV - Tanora malaGasy Vonona (Determined Malagasy Youth), Andry Rajoelina decided to run for Mayor of Antananarivo, the national capital. He faced Hery Rafalimanana, presidential candidate and previous mayor of the city. He did so under the status of President of Special Delegation (PDS), appointed directly by President Marc Ravalomanana. Rajoelina was elected mayor on 12 December 2007 with 63.3% of the vote. He inherited a city heavily indebted.

On 4 January 2008, shortly after his election, the state-run company Jirama cut off water and electricity to the city, citing bad debts as the reason.

Andry Rajoelina who was given the name Andry TGV, became mayor of the capital of Madagascar in 2007. He agreed with some people from the opposition of power and those of the former regime to overthrow President Marc Ravalomanana who was democratically elected in December 2006, with over 54% of the vote.

On 13 December 2008, the Government decided to close Rajoelina's Viva TV, citing a VIVA interview with former head of state Didier Ratsiraka that it said was "likely to disturb peace and security." The programme was also broadcast by other television channels. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the 17 December 2008 closure of Viva and of other television and radio stations.

On 31 January 2009, Rajoelina announced that he was in charge of the entire Malagasy Republic, declaring at a rally, "Since the president and the government has not taken his responsibility, I therefore proclaim that I will run all national affairs as of today." He added that a request for President Ravalomanana to formally resign would shortly be filed with the Parliament of Madagascar. On 3 February, Rajoelina was dismissed as Mayor and a special delegation, headed by Guy Randrianarisoa, was appointed. Rajoelina denounced the decision, saying that there was "no valid reason" and that he was prepared to face arrest if necessary; he warned that the city would not accept the decision.

Starting by emmiting speeches of the former dictactor, sought by the Malagasy State and exiled in France, Didier Ratsiraka, strongly criticizing the State led by Ravalomanana on his television station VIVA. Andry Rajoelina managed to trigger his plan because his television station was closed by a ministerial decree on grounds of security of the State. Rajoelina then accuses the President to govern with dictatorship and oppression the people of Madagascar and then began a campaign of misinformation on the radio station this time.
Rajoelina held another rally on 4 February, with about 1,500 people in attendance. On that occasion he described the appointment of Randrianarisoa as "an insult to the people of Madagascar." He instead designated Michele Ratsivalaka to succeed him as mayor and gave her his mayoral scarf. By early February the political protests had turned increasingly aggressive and both rivals at the centre of the political storm continued to blame each other for the violence that had left some 130 people dead. On 7 February, heavily armed security forces opened fire on anti-government demonstrators marching on the presidential palace.

Assumption of presidency
Rajoelina was effectively handed the presidency on 18 March 2009, when the military handed over the executive power that was given to it by Ravalomanana upon his supposed resignation. Rajoelina, as head of the High Transitional Authority which he had created weeks before Ravalomanana's resignation, is expected to serve as head of state until the scheduled 2011 elections. He is also the youngest president in the country's history at 34 years of age. The current constitution requires presidential candidates to be a minimum of 40 years of age. Rajoelina has announced that, within 24 months, there will be a new constitution and elections.

Having transgressed the Constitution and then giving an "ULTIMATUM" against the State, he renamed the Garden of Ambohijatovo as the "Place of democracy" by claiming loudly that Ravalomanana is the cause of poverty in Madagascar and selling 1.3 Million Ha to the Korean company Daewoo Logistic, information broadcasted on BBC. This information was immediately denied by the Daewoo and the government giving details of the case, that Daewoo, like other companies after verification, submitted a file, file not accessed. Thereafter, Ravalomanana made a denial and has reassured people that it is not signed but Rajoelina continued its campaign of demonization of the State by claiming the opposite and called for civil disobedience and the departure of Ravalomanana from the presidency.
On 15 March, two days before Ravalomanana's resignation, Rajoelina announced after Sunday service at the main Antananarivo Roman Catholic cathedral that he would not mix religion with politics.

The Southern African Development Community, a bloc of 15 nations including Madagascar, announced on 19 March that it would not recognize Rajoelina's presidency. His ascension to the presidency was also condemned by the European Union and the United States.

Rajoelina methods are ugly and terrifying. He led his supporters to a demonstration and then go burn all the stores of economic factors not only in the capital but throughout the Island. Namely those of Mauritians, South Africans, Malagasy and those of Ravalomanana .. for example, were looted and burnt. Some security officers of these stores, and looters were burnt.
One of his first measures as President was to cancel a deal with Daewoo Logistics which would have led to one half of the area of Madagascar being leased out to the South Koreans for agricultural purposes. Opponents of the deal had described it as an act of neo-colonialism. Announcing the decision, Rajoelina stated "We are not against the idea of working with investors, but if we want to sell or rent out land, we have to change the constitution, you have to consult the people.". Rio Tinto were among several firms to state that they did not expect the coup to have an effect on existing contracts in the country.

After burning the RNM and TVM (National Radio of Madagascar and Television of Madagascar), respectively the national radio and national television, in order to deprive the people of the island of any information and reality of the country, he then conveyed its own versions of events, through his radio VIVA and TV VIVA, which antenna was given back. In coastal areas, he agreed with some of the local opposition politicians and ordered civil disobedience, which has not taken effect because many supporters of Ravalomanana are still present throughout the island.

07 February 2009, after appointing his insurrectional Prime Minister in the person of Moinja Roindefo, he wanted to install Roindefo at the Presidential Palace and not at the Prime Minister's one. Still wanting to legitimize his movement and dirty the president in front of his supporters, the duo sent the supporters to storm the palace of Ambotsirohitra. Gunshots were heard, making some thirty deaths. Andry Rajoelina disappeared before the assault. Ravalomanana later opened an independent commission of inquiry with the UN approval concerning the source of the fire, the conditions for loss of life of victims , the ballistic analysis ... because some people have found that there were also some fire from the crowd and not only from the presidential guard of the palace and that soldiers themselves were hit by bullets ...

Rajoelina then said to his followers that not only Ravalomanana made them poor but he is starting to kill people ... The events in Madagascar since then continued as Andry Rajoelina terrorized the people by sending his supporters out to schoolchildren, high school students to join his movement, by threatening and carrying out internal terrorism. The "Lycée Français d'Ambatobe" for example was taken as hostage. He also ordered to mark in black all the houses of all those who still support Ravalomanana then burn them, once these people identified. As examples, the PDS ofAntananarivo Guy Rivo Randrianarisoa and Moxe Ramandimbilahatra.

Among the acts perpetrated by the movement of Andry Rajoelina can include: burning alive a member of law enforcement EMMO-NAT (Staff National Joint Operational), public exposure of the body, torture and humiliation of pastor and president of the church FJKM Lala Rasendrahasina, making his own urine to drink ...

Beginning March 2009, a warrant has been issued by the Ministry of Justice, but he has found refuge and was protected by the French Embassy.

Soldiers (CAPSAT) then started riots and another presidential palace was taken over this time by soldiers who joined the movement Andry Rajoelina.

On 17 March 2009, Ravalomanana dissolved the government and military formed a board in place. The military, under the constraint of the mutineers have then given the power to Andry Rajoelina.

The Obama Administration, the International Community, SADC, the African Union and the European Union of Karel Schwarzenberg qualifie these acts as Coup d'Etat.
