I have corrected the most obvious flaws in the infobox. However, I think the country infobox format is quite inappropriate and cumbersome for French overseas territories. It would be better to create a dedicated Template:French_overseas_territories_infobox which would be used for New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, Mayotte, and Saint Pierre et Miquelon. Paragraph on Dzaoudzi

This needs rewriting, Dzaoudzi is a rocky islet between Petite Terre and Grande Terre. This rocky islet is connected to Petite Terre by a causeway, but there is no causeway between Dzaoudzi and Grande Terre.

Languages

I was just wondering where the statistics for languages came from, as I assume that the source also holds statistics for Réunion, and I would like to add them. Thanks --Maurice45 (talk) 14:20, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

The Languages section appears to say that 97% of the population speaks French as a second language, then that only 55% of adults know French, then that 97% of teenage school children know French. It`s relevant for politics, because Mayotte elected to continues as a French colony, in order to protect their catholic population, and impedes imposition from Sharia law, as it was imposed on other Comores islands. Help for formatting religious data

PREFECTURE APOSTOLIC OF MAYOTTE, NOSSI-BE, AND COMORO (MAYOTTÆ, NOSSIBEÆ, ET COMORÆ).

Mayotte is the farthest south and most important of the group of Comoro Islands: Mayotte (Maote), Anjuan (Inzuani), Mohilla (Moheli), and Great Comoro (Komoro, i.e. where there is fire, or Angazidya). These islands, with Nossi-Bé (large island) and Santa Maria (Nossi Burai, Nossi Ibrahim), form the archipelago known as "the Satellites of Madagascar". The Comoro Islands, with their craggy evergreen shores, look like the cones of submerged groves separated from the mainland by deep abysses. The summits are not all of the same altitude; the highest point of Mayotte is not over 1800 feet, where the highest peak of Anjuan is about 5000 feet, while the central cone of Great Comoro, whose volcanic activity is not yet exhausted, rises to over 7000 feet. Two monsoons, consequently two seasons, alternately affect the climate of the archipelago, which is sometimes visited by cyclones. The soil of these islands is very fertile, and produces in abundance vanilla, cloves, sugar-cane, coffee, etc. The total population is about 80,000, mostly African negroes, often erroneously called Makoas (a Mozambique tribe). There are also some Sakalavas from Madagascar, mostly former slaves freed when the islands were occupied by the French. This Comoro Archipelago was for many centuries an Arabian colony and was once very prosperous. As they navigated along the African coast, the merchants of Idumea and Yemen created a special and interesting type, the Comorinos. Commingled with these Arabian half-breeds, once the sole owners of the country, there are now Banians from Cutch and Hindus from Bombay, who carry on almost the entire commerce. There are also a few European or creole planters and officials from Reunion or Mauritius. In 1843 the French Government, called in by the sultan, took possession of Mayotte, which became, with Nossi-Bé, a post of surveillance over Madagascar. All these islands now form a French colony. In 1844, Mayotte, Nossi-Bé, and the Comoros were made an Apostolic prefecture and confided to the Fathers of the Holy Ghost. In 1898, when the same missionaries were given the ecclesiastical administration of Northern Madagascar, these smaller islands and Santa Maria were attached to the Apostolic Vicariate at Diego Francisco Suárez. Santa Maria and Nossi-Bé have resident missionaries; the other islands are regularly visited.

The population of these islands is largely Muslim and therefore strongly anti-Christian; for this reason little religious christian progress is made. There are actually some other religions with a small number of adherents, like the Baha'i Faith and Hinduism. There are also small groups of Buddhists. And also- what is up with the unfinished table-like structure? it may be useful in providing data but it is a mess --Maurice45 (talk) 16:02, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Importance

I was actually wondering about this.... is Mayotte really the most important island in the Comoros? For starters it's not even part of the union anymore. Neither was it the most important when it actually WAS part of it --Maurice45 (talk) 11:04, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Removing Broken Table-like Structure (?)

There are several reasons for my doing so

1. It is broken, though, to be fair, it was always like that

2. it is a total mess and unreadable

3. it is un-wiki

Yes, it may be useful, but what is the point if you can't even understand it? And also there seemed to be some POV in the first paragraph. We are not here to judge whether it has a "colourful history". I hope you understand where I'm coming from on this --Maurice45 (talk) 16:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

who are the 11 countries that voted for the 1976 proposal of UN resolution? Hard to believe the UK would vote for, given that they have the same situation in other territories.
