Svetlana Loboda

Svetlana Loboda (Ukrainian: Світлана Сергіївна Лобода) (b. 18 October, 1982, in Kiev) is a Ukrainian pop singer mostly known for her 2007 song 'Mishka'. Svetlana was a member of Ukrainian pop group VIA Gra for 5 months in 2004. Her debut solo album «Ты не забудешь» (Ti ne zabudesh/You do not forget) was released in November 2005.

History

From early childhood Svetlana was very fond of music. Her parents noticed her musical ability and sent their daughter to a music school where she worked on the piano. Here she also worked on conducting and vocal performance. Upon completing her first musical education, Svetlana entered the Kiev Academy of variety-circus at the office of jazz-pop vocals.

2000-2002: Cappuccino

At the first year at the Academy Svetlana formed her first group Cappuccino. At that time the members became popular in Ukraine however, at some point the group stops development and almost stops touring. Svetlana didn't agree with the situation in the group and decides to withdraw from it. Although Svetlana left the band her contract, which had a two-year length, encouraged her to change her own image beyond recognition, and in secret from the producers, toured the country under the pseudonym Alisiya Gorn.

2003: Equateur & Ketch

In 2003 Svetlana was cast in the first Ukrainian musical Equateur which became a success with the public. In the early days of the premiere of the musical it does prove successful but then gradually lost the interest of the public due to the fact that the genre of musicals have historically not been developed in Ukraine.[1] As a result, the project is closed. During the period of the musical there was a large rotation of the song and the video Black Angel, recorded and filmed with Svetlana Loboda. Simultaneously with the work of Equateur she organizes a group, Ketch, which has became the main performer and producer of the song. Svetlana worked ontrhe groups costumes and earned the group places in Kiev's clubs in the new year (2004), where she first met VIA Gra producer Dmitriy Kostiuk.

2004: VIA Gra

In May of 2004 Svetlana participates in an audition to become a member of a new Ukrainian girlband. With her vocals, choreography and appearance, Svetlana was able to surpass other auditionees consisting of five young girls and their mothers, who also wanted to sing. After the end of the casting Dmitry Kostyuk and Konstantin Meladze asked Loboda stay unanimously. She learns that this audition was not for a new project, as Loboda was led to believe, but an audition for the replacement of one of the members of the popular Ukrainian girlband VIA Gra.

After a short time of being in the group Svetlana continued to tour solo and began thinking about her 'abandoned' solo career. It was prohibited for her to improvise live by terms of her contract which Loboda felt restricted her personal life. Producers were unhappy with her communication with the press and excessive activity in the statements. "Loboda become too visible" was one of the comments made by Dmitry Kostyuk and Konstantin Meladze. After the capture of the New Musical Film Sorochinskaya Fair where Svetlana played a major role decided to leave the popular group saying «None of those people that I would be able to work [for]... For many reasons. I just need ... to participate in everything. Like it was as a child, in kindergarten, I thought the game that we played with friends, and I realized that nothing has changed, I still want to lead the parade, and I know for sure that the direction will be correct. I like the way to live! I can not deal with only those that go to concerts as it was in the VIA Greece for me it's boring! I want to write songs, invent images, mount clips, one word, to engage in creative work!"[1].

Solo career

The word that another former VIA Gra had left the group and had begun a solo career instantly appears in the media. Many newspapers and magazines predict the failure of the new independent singer but in November 2004 she establishes the production company S & A Music groupo Ltd. along with partner Alexander Shirkov. Before the end of the year Svetlana releases her first solo single Чёрно-белая зима (Black & White Winter) which managed to reach the big music broadcasters of Russia which then encouraged Svetlana to begin touring.
