Craig Owens

Craigery Michael Owens is a musician from Davison, Michigan who currently resides in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He is the lead singer of Chiodos, Cinematic Sunrise, and is the co-lead vocalist of another side project, Isles & Glaciers. He was part of The Sound of Animals Fighting and was given an offer to reprise his role in their third album, The Ocean and the Sun, but declined due to a full schedule.

Owens and Anthony Green were both featured for cover stories in Alternative Press in September 2008.[1][2]

Biography

Owens was born when his mother was 17 years old. His parents would often fight and as a young boy, he would climb out of his bedroom window and listen to music in his mother's car. On July 20, 2008, Craig Owens attempted to overdose on prescription Xanax in his Michigan home. The police report stated he had been severely depressed; ongoing criticism from fans had apparently brought him to his breaking point.

I woke up in the emergency room surrounded by my family and best friends, with an IV in my left arm, and hooked up to machines. [3]

The attempt was the result of a long struggle with bipolar disorder, and frequent anxiety attacks. Owens has stated that he has not suffered any permanent physical damage from the incident and can't wait to embark on his next tour with Chiodos. Craig had booked over 350 Chiodos shows before they were signed to Equal Vision.

On December 15, 2008, a new side project was revealed to be called Isles & Glaciers and includes Craig Owens (Chiodos,Cinematic Sunrise) and Jonny Craig (Emarosa, ex-Dance Gavin Dance) providing Vocals, Vic Fuentes (Pierce the Veil) on guitar and backing vocals, Nick Martin (Underminded,Cinematic Sunrise) on guitar, Matt Goddard (Chiodos) on bass, Brian Southall (The Receiving End of Sirens) on Programming/Guitar, and Mike Fuentes (Pierce the Veil) on Drums/Percussion.

Craig Owens and Jonny Craig of Emarosa will be featured as guest vocalists on the debut album "Kingdoms" by rock band Broadway, which is set to release on July 7, 2009. [4]

Isles & Glaciers made their first live debut at the 2009 SXSW showcase show in Austin, Texas, which was presented by Alternative Press. At the show, the band announced that they have finished recording their debut EP and that it will be released sometime in the summer of 2009.[5]

On May 4, 2009, on an acoustic/PodCast Alternative Press Magazine session with Mike Shea, Craig Owens revealed three facts about himself. He stated that he's a huge Detroit Pistons fan; his favorite player was Chauncey Billups (who has since been traded to the Denver Nuggets). Secondly, he stated that if he only had to watch three television shows for the rest of his life, they would be "Flight Of The Conchords", "The Office" and "Eastbound And Down". Finally, his plan is to travel with the love of his life, Joanna, around all 50 states in America by the end of 2009; this is one of the reasons why she recently went on tour with him. They love to travel. Also during the session, he performed a new, untitled, acoustic song about Joanna that shows he still cares about her and thinks about her while he's on tour.

Owen's new solo record will include a number of guests including Stephen Christian from Anberlin, Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad, Bradley Bell from Chiodos, Josh Epstein and Cassie Verass of The Silent Years, and Vince Moreno of Kid Brother Railroad.[6]

Owens is currently writing vocals for Chiodos, according to a recent Twitter update.

Owens announced the name of his new solo EP via Twitter, "Με την αγάπη" which is Greek for "with love" and is pronounced "mi agape" in English. On July 21, 2009 Craig Owens Announced on Twitter, he will be releasing the EP on September 15, 2009.

Craig Owens put up a new song on his myspace from his EP titled "Products of Poverty" on August 6, 2009
