Voyage of Bartolomeu Dias (1487–88)

De Bakke is an area in the town of Mossel Bay famed for its beautiful views, excellent camping and safe swimming.

The name appears to have Dutch/Afrikaans origins meaning "the pots" and may refer to the long history of this area being enjoyed as a holiday and picnic destination as far back as the 19th century.

It is also adjacent to the famed landfall of Santos beach where the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias first came ashore on the Southern coast of Africa.

Mosselbay is the base chosen by the Paraguayan national football contingent for their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay (Spanish: República del Paraguay, pronounced [reˈpuβlika ðel paɾaˈɣwai]; Guaraní: Tetã Paraguái), is one of the two landlocked countries which lie entirely within the Western Hemisphere, the other being Bolivia, both in South America.

It lies on both banks of the Paraguay River and is bordered by Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest. Because of its central location in South America, the country is sometimes referred to as Corazón de América — Heart of America.[1] As of 2009 the population was estimated at over six million.

2010 will mark the first time in its history that Soccer World Cup is being held in Africa. South Africa was awarded the rights to host the tournament after defeating Morocco and Egypt in the all-African bidding process.[2]
