Ove Hoegh-Guldberg (born 26 September 1959, in Sydney, Australia), is the inaugral Director of the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland, and the holder of a Queensland Smart State Premier fellowship (2008-2013). He is best known for his work on climate change and coral reefs. Hoegh-Guldberg has appeared on television (including the Australian Story series profiling his life & work[1]) and radio[2]and maintains a blog[3] on coral reefs, politics and the environment.

Academic Career

Ove Hoegh-Guldberg completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney in 1982, before moving to UCLA to complete his PhD under the guidance of the late Len Muscatine in 1989. His PhD topic focused upon the physiology of corals and their zooxanthellae under thermal stress.

Hoegh-Guldberg is a professor [4] at the University of Queensland. He is a leading coral biologist whose study focuses on the impact of global warming and climate change on coral reefs eg coral bleaching [5] As of Oct 5, 2009, he had published 236 journal articles, 18 book chapters and been cited 3,373 times.[6]
