Christian Gabriel Ledru Macari (born February 8, 1980) is a French music video director and producer hails from the French West Indies. Through his company, Tchimbé Raid Production, he has released since 2006 more than 5O video-clips of Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae-Dancehall and Zouk. Chris Macari has been honoured in 2008 at The Olympia for his realisation: Le Combat Continue 3 by Kery James and he is considered since then as an icon of the French Hip Hop scene[1].

Biography

Even though he was born in the Val de Marne, Chris Macari flew with his parents to where they originally come from: Martinique, only two weeks after his birth. He grew up on “The Island of Flowers”, first in Carbet then in Shcoelcher. Chris Macari was educated in the capital city, Fort-de-France. He went to Ernest Renan secondary school and to the same former, Victor Schoelcher high school, of the pioneer of the Negritude: Aimé Césaire. After having passed his A-level in economics in 1998, he left for Paris to start some graphic art studies at the Grande Ecole of ESAG Penninghen.

After 5 years of dedication, he obtained his diploma with honours in 2003 and undertook a fantastic career in direction and production which has been leading him to work with prestigious artists such as Kery James, Booba, Mac Tyer, Mokobe, Soprano, Rim K, Sefyu, Rohff, Nessbeal, Casey, Despo, Soprano, 113, Kenza Farah, Princess Lover, Tina, Ali Angel and Tony Parker[2].

Style

Influenced during his youth by finest talents like Spike Lee, Hype Williams, Chris Robinson, Ridley Scott & Tony Scott, Martin Scorsese, John Singleton and actors such as Denzel Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Macari has a unique style, far away from the stereotypes of the most common Hip Hop music videos. Beyond his artistic universe he is described as being dark, this image-maker brings another dimension to his productions by creating a new aesthetic thanks to an original cinematographic touch[3].

Passions

Chris Macari is passionate about graphic art, cinema, basketball, and Hip Hop but is above all a gifted draughtsman. This drawing-virtuoso, created his first masterpieces at the age of 6 and is still feeding his passion next to the video production.

Awards

Chris Macari won the award of Best Hip Hop Video in 2008 at the Olympia for the 2nd sequel of "Les Trophées de l’Année du Hip Hop” for "Le Combat Continue 3" by Kery James[4].

Chris Macari is the winner of the RFO contest Best Short Movie Amateur” in 2003 for his movie TCHIMBE RAID. In this 4 minutes motion, he describes his nostalgic state of mind in regards to the distance from his roots, his parents and the loneliness in front of the drepanocytosis.
