Thank you for your message. I am new to the internet, and am finding the protocols very diffult to follow. (Unlike you, I did not grow up with computors of anykind, let alone personal computors). I have been clicking on the tilde notice at the bootom of the edit screen, assuming that would do the trick. Apparrently you are (automated or not) aware of the workings of Wikipedia, so maybe you could suggest to them that the instruction be modified to include what you have told me - click the signature button on the tool bar. Even I can understand that.--Coralhue (talk) 13:15, 23 November 2009 (UTC) <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Coralhue (talk • contribs) </span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Still don't seem to have got it right? Coralhue (talk) 13:23, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Revision as of 13:23, 23 November 2009

slakr's life is currently frolicking with chaos, so his activity and response times to queries will be highly variable.
Leave a message and he will respond whenever he gets a chance— that is, assuming he gets a chance. Cheers =)
zOMG!!! I need urgent assistance!!!1!!banana?kiwi?

Ideally, please use this link to post new messages at the bottom. If you can't find something you recently posted, I might have moved it down there or it could have been archived if you posted it over 7 days ago. Cheers :)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Comment

Regarding slakr:

Why did my page get deleted?
I have no idea what you're talking about. What's vandalism?
If you received a warning from me and you're not logged in, you might have gotten an old warning I sent to someone who shares your IP address. On the other hand, if you've made recent edits and received a recent warning message from me and you genuinely believe that it's not vandalism, don't fret-- simply drop me a message below, because I could have simply made a silly mistake. :)

Regarding SineBot:

Why does SineBot keep signing stuff I've already signed?
All comments should have a signature that includes both a link to your user page (slakr) and a datestamp (05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)) (per signatures - internal links). This is most easily generated by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your contributions, which makes something like "slakr 05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)".[reply]

If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

If you're still having problems after trying that, post a message below. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
I don't want my comments signed by SineBot. How do I get it to ignore me or my talk page?
Please use one of the opt-out methods listed on its user page.
SineBot forgot to sign something it should have signed.
Usually this happens because the bot isn't sure if it really should sign something, so it defaults to not signing it (e.g., in cases of complex edits). It does this to avoid being annoying. Other times, a comment might be made when the bot is down for maintenance, so the bot simply never sees it.
SineBot signed something that it genuinely should not have signed.
Please let me know-- especially if you think it's not a one-time thing. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
Is SineBot's source code available?
Not currently.
I'm signing with four tildes (~~~~) but it's still saying I didn't!
You likely enabled raw signatures. Open your preferences, click the "User profile" tab, make sure that "Treat the above as wiki markup" is NOT checked, and click Save; it should be fixed. If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

Alt Account

Why did you delete my article on Super Granny? its a notabel article on a software game? please help —Preceding unsigned comment added by McJombo Sails (talkcontribs) 01:34, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you there admin??? please hlep me —Preceding unsigned comment added by McJombo Sails (talkcontribs) 01:45, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Those edits above me were from my alt account, for WP:NEWT. Just wanted to re-inform you, that you can't CSD software articles. --Coffee // have a cup // ark // 04:34, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a web game and thus web content; thus, it's CSDA7. Actually, it's still CSD-able, because it still does not assert any notability, but since the google result looks like it's gotten popular (or is at least highly linked to), it probably does meet notability. --slakrtalk / 05:08, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And by the way, intentionally creating crap articles to try to goad admins into deleting them so that you can drop chiding notes on their talk pages... well... I'm not quite sure what to say about that. I mean, I appreciate you trying to improve the newbie experience, but I'm not entirely sure trickery and deception is the best way to solve the problem, because historically speaking, it seems to only increase job dissatisfaction and organizational disunity. Of course, that's just my opinion. --slakrtalk / 05:22, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, it would help—since you know so much about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines—if you stub-tagged the Super Granny article that you created with your sock, added some categories to it, and actually Wikified it. Heck, maybe even abide by one of our core policies and actually add some cites. Or, were you planning to simply let it linger around until I or someone else fixed it? I should hope that you're as much worried about the encyclopedia experience as you're worried about the "newbie experience." --slakrtalk / 05:31, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No that's incorrect, games are considered software unless they are played in the web browser. Super Granny is a desktop based game albeit you can play it online at certain places it's still desktop based, so does not fall under CSD A7. Secondly, if you would like to go back to the CSD page and maybe read it over, it would help, because you're not using that criteria correctly at the moment. Thirdly, I haven't had a lot of time to edit that article yet or put this all up at WP:NEWT, so don't try and act like the policy wonk when you aren't following it yourself. --Coffee // have a cup // ark // 05:39, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought the purpose of WP:NEWT was to try to measure the real newbie experience, not to come up with the most borderline speedy deletion you can (a game that's downloaded from the web, occasionally played from the web, but not "web content") to see if an admin will still delete it. Mr.Z-man 06:46, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't really matter what you thought it was for. As long as the socks weren't being disruptive, they're pretty much allowed to do anything. --Coffee // have a cup // ark // 11:53, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would argue that adding crappy articles to mainspace, specifically engineering to be as bad as possible while remaining outside of CSD so that you can go around and act all condescending to admins when they delete them (without even considering IAR) is disruptive. The only real difference between what you're doing and purposely exploiting the wording of CSD to disrupt the project is your motive. If you wanted to see the real newbie experience, why didn't you wait for slakr to respond to your alt account before "breaking character"? But as you say, my opinion is worthless, so, whatever... Mr.Z-man 17:35, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My point in doing the experiment this way was to mix up WP:NEWT a bit, if you're going to have all of the experiments the same way what's the point of doing them at all? Feel free to comment at Wikipedia:Newbie treatment at CSD/Coffee. --Coffee // have a cup // ark // 23:43, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My page was not vandalism or a hoax

My contribution, a page about the Bouncing Time postulate, was not vandalism or a hoax. It was a plausible theorem that my friend and I came up with over the course of a few weeks. Please either undelete it or give me a valid reason it should stay deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Limequat (talkcontribs) 22:22, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not for things you made up one day. That is, Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought. I would undelete it based on your assertion that it's not a hoax/vandalism; however, it would be immediately re-deleted due to your assertion that you made it up. A quick google search also corroborates this. --slakrtalk / 17:53, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NEWT

Hello I just wanted to inform you that there was a thread started that concerns you and other editors at Wikipedia:Newbie treatment at CSD/Coffee. Feel free to comment there! --Coffee // have a cup // ark // 23:40, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Getting the Summit on the Homepage of Wikipedia

Hi, I just saw you marked the World Summit on Food Security 2009 as current event. Can this be made available on the homepage of Wikipedia? Thanks! --Gsalokhe (talk) 11:16, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

?

why do you have a bot--Anthony 5432 (talk) 13:17, 19 November 2009 (UTC)Anthony 5432[reply]

Check out the bot policy. Basically, it's kind of like having an inferior clone that does all of the trivial work that you don't wanna keep doing yourself (e.g., signing comments or blocking the myriad of open proxies on the internet). In a way, they could all be called Bitch Slakr (I, II, III, and so on), but I wouldn't want them to be confused with being me during times when I'm bitchy; so, they have unique, user-friendly names instead. :P --slakrtalk / 10:29, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sinebot tilde template suggestion

At the moment, Sinebot does this: "If a particular person makes three or more unsigned comments in a 24 hour period, the bot will place a single Tilde warning on his/her talk page." It might be useful if it did this for editors posting to a talk page for the first time if they fail to sign, without waiting for them to make three in a 24 hour period (or to post the welcome template, which includes this guidance). It might be useful for it to do this for longer-time editors who have never posted a signature also, if there's any way to easily determine that. Шизомби (talk) 18:03, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion about tildes

Thank you for your message. I am new to the internet, and am finding the protocols very diffult to follow. (Unlike you, I did not grow up with computors of anykind, let alone personal computors). I have been clicking on the tilde notice at the bootom of the edit screen, assuming that would do the trick. Apparrently you are (automated or not) aware of the workings of Wikipedia, so maybe you could suggest to them that the instruction be modified to include what you have told me - click the signature button on the tool bar. Even I can understand that.--Coralhue (talk) 13:15, 23 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coralhue (talkcontribs) Still don't seem to have got it right?
