The first two episodes of Series 1 of Torchwood premiered on 22 October 2006 on BBC Three and BBC HD with all subsequent episodes of that series shown at 10 p.m. on Sunday evenings.

Series 2 (2008)
Series 2 of Torchwood was filmed from April to November 2007 for broadcast starting on 16 January 2008.[1] Due to audience demand, younger fans had the opportunity to watch an edited pre-watershed repeat, aired the next day at an earlier time. The first five series two episodes were originally shown on BBC Two and BBC HD. Episodes "Reset" to "Fragments" were premiered on BBC Three, to be shown on BBC Two and BBC HD a week later. The final episode "Exit Wounds" was exclusively premiered on BBC Two and BBC HD, not being shown previously on BBC Three. Where there are two viewers figures listed, the first is for the premiere BBC Three airing and the second is for the BBC Two airing.
Recurring guest stars in the second series have included returning Doctor Who cast member Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones for three episodes (from "Reset" to "A Day in the Death"), and American actor and Buffy star James Marsters as villain Captain John Hart in the series premiere and its final two episodes. Episodic guest stars have included New Zealand-born Australian/US TV actor Alan Dale (Neighbours, The O.C., Lost, Ugly Betty) as Aaron Copley ("Reset"),[2] and British actors Richard Briers (The Good Life, Monarch of the Glen) as Parker ("A Day in the Death"),[3] theatrical actress Nikki Amuka-Bird as Beth ("Sleeper"), Bryan Dick as Adam, Nerys Hughes (The Liver Birds) as Brenda Williams ("Something Borrowed"),[3] and Ruth Jones (Little Britain, Gavin and Stacey) as Nikki Bevan ("Adrift").[3][4]

Series 3 (2009)
The third series is a miniseries of five episodes under the banner title Children of Earth, and were shown over one week from 6 July on BBC One[11], 7 July on UK-TV and ABC HD in Australia, from 20 July[12] on BBC America, and from 20 July on Space in Canada,[13] with Peter Bennett as the producer.[14][15]

Series 4
After the airing of Children of Earth, a BBC America representative announced that a fourth series of Torchwood had been commissioned.[20] On 12 November 2009, the show's creator Russell T. Davies confirmed that Series 4 is 'in the works' and that he is expecting to get started in January 2010. [21] John Barrowman has said that he has signed up to a fourth series of Torchwood.[22]
