M. Sasikumar is a Tamil film director, actor and producer. He created a new trend in the Tamil film industry with his debut film Subramaniapuram in 2008. The low budget film received much attention for its original script, expert direction, screenplay, editing and accurate sets and costumes to resurrect Madurai from the 1980's.He is expected to have started his next directorial venture ‘Nagaram’ in august 2009, which will also casts new faces.[1]

Biography

Sasikumar hails from Puthuthamaraipatti, a small village in Madurai District, Tamil Nadu. His grandparents were farmers and his parents still live in Madurai where they run many small and different trades. Sasikumar spent his childhood years at the St.Peter’s boarding school in Kodaikkanal.[2]

Debut film

He directed, acted and produced Subramaniapuram in 2008, his debut directorial venture. 'Subramaniapuram' centers on a set of vagabond youths in Madurai during the 1980's and their lives that gets enmeshed in politics and crime eventually leading to tragedy. Subramaniapuram, shot in a remarkable eighty five days received much critical acclaim and became a box office grosser. Sasikumar is now considered one of the promising young directors in Tamil film industry.

Acting career

Sasikumar acted in 'Subramaniapuram' as 'Parama' and in 'Naadodigal' (2009) as 'Karuna' directed by Samuthirakani and was lauded for his original performances.

Producer

Post the success of 'Subramaniapuram', Sasikumar produced 'Pasanga' (2009), directed by debutant Pandiraj.

Awards

Sasikumar won the best director award in Univercell Vijay Awards 2009 for the big hit 'Subramaniapuram'.
