Season chronology | |
The third season of American Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana began production on August 4, 2008 and ceased in early June 2009.[2][failed verification][3][4] Season 3 episodes began airing on November 2, 2008 and were still airing as of March 2010.[3] Filming for the season started a day after the 2008 Teen Choice Awards.[5] Season 3 of Hannah Montana focuses more on how the characters grow up than the previous seasons. Also, Oliver and Lilly start dating starting from the episode "What I Don't Like About You".
Opening sequence
For season three, the opening credits changed dramatically. The names appear on a scrolling marquee as you would see on a theater. The sequence then changes to full-screen episode clips, in which both season 2 and season 3 episodes clips are included. The new version of the song The Best of Both Worlds was performed at the Season 3 concert, and clips of that were added to the theme song as well. The creators' names appear in the second to last clip. A new version of the switch from Miley to Hannah is featured in the middle of the theme song, as Miley admires a hug between her and her dad in a clip of Hannah Montana.
Casting
The main cast of season 3 remained the same as the previous season. Hayley Chase, Romi Dames, David Koechner, and Cody Linley all reprised their roles as Joannie, Traci Van Horn, Uncle Earl and Jake Ryan in at least one episode. Recurring character from the second season Mikayla, played by Selena Gomez did not make an appearance in any episode of this season. Also, Roxy Roker, played by Frances Callier, was omitted despite an episode in season 2 emphasizing her importance to Miley/Hannah after working for the president and a major part in the season 2 finale, We're All on This Date Together.
Music
The new version of "The Best of Both Worlds" was used both for the movie as well as for the opening sequence, and was sung at the Hannah Montana season 3 concert in 2008. This version is extended to 59 seconds. The full version is featured on Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack but is not featured on the Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack.[6]
Episodes
Hannah Montana Season 3 started on November 2, 2008 as part of Disney Channel's "New In November", celebrating Hannah Montana's third season premiere. As of September 2009, only two specials have been broadcast. The first is a 50-minute special starring Cody Linley as Jake Ryan called "He Could Be the One" which was first broadcast July 5, 2009. The second one is a crossover episode, "Super(stitious) Girl", which was first broadcast July 17, 2009 as part of Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana.
"Uptight (Oliver's Alright)", the 23rd episode of the season, used elements of an unaired season 2 episode, "No Sugar, Sugar". "No Sugar, Sugar" had been intended as the season 2 finale, but was withdrawn from the airing schedule after complaints from parents who saw an on-demand version of the episode.[7] Parts of the episode were subsequently re-written and re-filmed and the modified version, which raises the issue of Type 1 diabetes, aired on September 20, 2009.
- Miley Cyrus, Emily Osment and Jason Earles are present for all episodes
- Mitchel Musso is absent for six episodes
- Billy Ray Cyrus is absent for three episodes.
- Moises Arias is absent for seven episodes.
