KKNG is a radio station broadcasting out of Blanchard, a suburb of Oklahoma City. It operates at 97.3 MHz. Its transmitter is located near Blanchard.
History
The KKNG calls were originally on easy listening formatted "King" 92.5 in Oklahoma City. When the Tyler boys were looking for a format to put on their new move-in from Ada (KTLS), they seriously considered resurrecting the easy listening format, even to the point of having the music library ready to go, etc. when Clear Channel launched soft rock KQSR (ironically on 94.7, the former frequency of country music KEBC that was owned by Ralph Tyler!). The format plans were quickly then changed to Classic Country as "King Country 93.3" with KKNG going in direct competition with Clear Channel's country KXXY and KTST. But as we Know already Jake is not gonna do well in Oklahoma City it's the 5th Country station In Oklahoma City. And Also you would think that if one countrystation failed it would go to a new format
Launched in 1998 by Tyler Media, the station is known for its classic country format and morning personalities. Current DJs include Lynn Waggoner.
On March 8, 2010 KKNG began a simulcast on both 97.3 and 93.3. A new format for 93.3 is yet to be announced. March 8th 2010 James Ayers, Bill Thomas, KC Sheperd were let go due to the pending format flip of 93.3. On March 14th 2010 It was launched as new country as 93.3 Jake FM Call sign was changed to KJKE on 3-15-10
