Song |
"Your Love Is My Drug" is an electropop song by American recording artist and songwriter Kesha, from her debut album, Animal. Prior to the release of Animal, the song charted in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand. It will be officially available for U.S. airplay on April 8, 2010.[1]
In a March 2010 interview for UK website Digital Spy, Kesha stated that "Your Love Is My Drug" and "Take It Off" were being considered as candidates for the third single from the album.[2]
Background
The song was written by Kesha, her mother Pebe Sebert and Joshua Coleman. It tells about one of Kesha's previous romances, which she compares to a drug. The song was featured in the film The Bounty Hunter.[3]
Critical reception
Ben Norman of About.com called "Your Love Is My Drug" a "fiercely anthemic pop-dance track that is better than "Tik Tok" in just about every way."[4]
Chart performance
The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number twenty-seven in the third week of 2010. It also entered the Canadian Hot 100 in the same week at number forty-eight, although it wasn't officially released as a single. It had spent a total of six weeks on the chart in the United States and six weeks in Canada. In the sixth week of 2010, "Your Love Is My Drug" entered at number sixty-three on the UK Singles Chart, dropping off the chart the following week.[5]
The song re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number ninety-one on the week ending April 3, 2010, and has since moved up to number thirty-two.[6] Despite no official music video or official release the song debuted at twenty-nine on the offical top 40 in New Zealand and as of 5th April 2010 has gone to number 24 [7]. This is the highest place in the world it has currently charted in.
Music video
The music video will be directed by Honey.[8] The video was shot April 6 and April 7 2010 in the Lancaster, California desert.[9]
