A Question

May I ask why you deleted my work on the Hooded Warbler page? It was all true information, and I organized it in a proper fashion. I'm sorry if I sound rude, but why did you do this? Thanks. --Hoodedwarbler12 (talk) 23:50, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article About Swissôtel Grand Efes

Dear Jim;

I see that you deleted my article on Swissôtel Grand Efes which was written on the 7th of April. I am wondering if you read my comments written right after I recieved the message of speedy deletion since I tried to explain in detail why I added some information regarding the history of the hotel.

Looking forward to getting your feedback on this.

All the best,

Why Did You Delete Our Article

Dear Jim,

You deleted our article "K-Secure VPN" on 09:20, 4 April 2010 based on ‎(G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion).

As we understand it, wikipedia is hosting all sorts of advertising or promotion articles. For example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco#Cisco_Systems_VPN_Client

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotomypc

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vyatta

...

to list only a tiny few.

Are you planning on deleting all these pages from wikipedia? If not, we feel you (or wikipedia) are holding double standards.

I appologize if I did not get the whole story - let me know why other commercial promotions get to stay and we get to be kicked out.

Regards,

Mike Winton (info at k-secure.com)

Longhouse Media article

Hi Jim,

I am writing you regarding the Longhouse Media article that was deleted on March 25, 2010 due to "unambiguous advertising or promotion."

I would like to cover Longhouse Media in a new article but am committed to the objective of wikipedia to be a high-quality resource encyclopedia and not to become a "promotional" engine. I hope that this new article, written from a neutral perspective, will comply with the criteria set by Wiki. I am by no means trying to "promote" Longhouse Media, but rather want to "describe" its role and work and share this with other wiki users.

Longhouse Media

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your prompt reply and feedback.

  • I appreciate the reference and heading changes you made to the Longhouse Media article.
  • I have tried to address the following point you made:

"It still reads as promotional, presenting aims as facts… eg Longhouse Media provides youth (with?) the skills… We are told nothing factual about the organisation. How many staff? - where is it based? - what is its budget? ...” by rephrasing some of its content and by adding facts about Longhouse Media as “an organization.” Here are the changes/additions to the article: (1) Longhouse Media is based in Seattle (2) Central to Longhouse Media is its commitment to providing youth the skills necessary to tell their own stories through digital media. Its youth media program ‘Native Lens’ brings digital media training to Native youth in rural and urban settings and teaches filmmaking to Native youth as a form of inquiry, community development, and cultural pride and preservation. Native Lens was the recipient of the 2007 Seattle Mayor’s Award. (3) Longhouse Media counts 7 full time and 3 part time staff, 30 active volunteers, and 8 board members. (4) Since 2005 Longhouse Media has worked with a documented 1500 youth and 31 separate tribes.

  • Jim, providing a reference for the numbers in the article (the number of staff, board members, youth and tribes Longhouse has worked with, etc.) is not straightforward. The source is Longhouse Media’s own organizational documentation and records. I think the Longhouse Media website is the best source for that information and I am providing the website as an external link at the end of the article.
  • Both the University of Washington and Seattle University have performed assessments and case studies about Longhouse Media, which has verified its ability to effect positive change. These are however documents on hard copy, but I am unable to add a weblink for those in the wiki article.

I look forward to your further feedback. Best, Native8 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Native8 (talkcontribs) 21:40, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with the tag back - although I'm going to have a another thorough look at the article over this weekend and see if maybe there's a case for an AfD nom. I'll also copy the messages re the article onto its talk page. I'll then put a note on Native8's talk page inviting him to read and comment there. I think its best if all discussion re that article is kept on that talk page together. Cheers, then... Plutonium27 (talk) 18:56, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Had a good look again at the article and creator Native8's rationales etc. I've responded to him and copied that (+ the above correspondence) to Talk:UNRESERVED: The Work of Louie Gong. IMO the nn/span/coi issues are - as you noted concluded also - enough to make proposed deletion reasonable although I'll defer to your experience if you since decide otherwise :). Am grateful for your help. Thanks! Plutonium27 (talk) 03:34, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the reply to the (above ref'd) copied correspondence at Talk:UNRESERVED: The Work of Louie Gong I'm starting to wonder if there is a sockpuppet check worth doing re User: Native Lens (the erstwhile protagonist of Longhouse Media) , User: Native8 and the IP 98.247.252.218 ? Plutonium27 (talk) 15:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SPI I dunno how either, me. I guess its probably not worth squawking about unless the AfD threatens to go tits up because of Plutonium27 (talk) 17:38, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for your comments on the review page. I've responded to all of them and had two where I asked followup questions. Please take a look again at your earliest convenience. Thanks again! --SkotyWATC 16:31, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've followed up on your last two suggestions (which I think were really good). Please have a look and strike them if you're happy with the changes. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks. --SkotyWATC 16:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you provide the BWP concise ed. page numbers for this bird (it is already cited; the bird may be under Spanish Sparrow or House Sparrow for all I know). Thanks, —innotata 16:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you have time, do you think you can add facts from the BWP has to the description? The only measurement in Summers-Smith is male wing length! —innotata 18:37, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know of any sources I could cite for the Spanish Sparrow's spread in the Po Delta? I can't find anything except birdingitaly.net, which is blocked by my browser. Thanks, —innotata 22:00, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have new message/s Hello. You have a new message at Innotata's talk page.

Deletion of No One is Illegal - Montreal page

To Editor Jimfbleak: Can you please explain why you deleted the No One is Illegal Montreal page. The article offered a profile of a social justice organization in Montreal that has been a notable activist voice in the debate about immigration, migrant worker and refugee rights in Montreal and Canada. The profile was created by an individual not affiliated with the organization using several credible reliable outside sources fulfilling the wikipedia criteria for contributing an article. I look forward to your reply. RELI312 (talk) 20:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To Editor JimfBleak: Thanks so much for your detailed respose for how to improve the profile. I have sent your comments to the page creator and hopefully the appropriate revisions will be made. Is there any chance you could place the deleted page into a userpage so the material posted can be revised and more editorial feedback requested before reposting? Much appreciated. RELI312 (talk) 15:55, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Longhouse Media

Agree. Including "areas of improvement" as identified by an institution/organization that is independent form Longhouse Media (e.g. the University studies) would be desirable here. I will do my best to find/get access to such info and include some of their findings. Thank youNative8 (talk) 19:11, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
