Maker Faire is an event created by Make Magazine to "celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset."
Past events
The first was held April 22 – 23, 2006 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. It included 6 exposition & workshop pavilions, a 5-acre (20,000 m2) outdoor midway, over 100 exhibiting Makers, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and DIY competitions.

The first Maker Faire in the United Kingdom took place on March 14-15 2009 in Newcastle upon Tyne, as a joint venture with the Newcastle ScienceFest.
The 2009 Bay Area Maker Faire was held May 30 & 31 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Featured guests included Adam Savage.
The 2009 Maker Faire Rhode Island was scheduled for September 6-19.[7]
