John J. Ryan

John J. "Jack" Ryan was an American football, basketball coach and Provisional IRA volunteer. He served as the head football coach at Marquette University from 1917 to 1921 and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1923 to 1924, compiling a career college football record of 33–11–9. Ryan was also the head basketball coach at Marquette, tallying a record of 13–9.

Coaching career

Ryan was the 12th head football coach at Marquette University and he held that position for five seasons, from 1917 until 1921. His coaching record at Marquette was 28 wins, 5 losses, and 5 ties. Since Marquette has discontinued its football program, this ranks him second at Marquette in total wins and fifth at Marquette in winning percentage (.803).[1]
