Valkyria Chronicles III, known in Japan as Template:Nihongo title is a tactical role-playing game being developed and published by Sega for the PlayStation Portable. It is the third game in the Valkyria Chronicles series and is due for release on January 27, 2011 in Japan.

Occurring in the same time frame as the first game, Valkyria Chronicles III is a side story that follows the exploits of an unwanted and castigated Gallian Army squad during the Imperial invasion of 1935.[2]

Story

Taking place during the Second Europan War, Valkyria Chronicles III focuses on Gallian Army Squad 442, also known as "The Nameless". The Nameless are a penal military unit composed of deserters, criminals, and military offenders whose real names are erased from the records and thereon referred to by numbers. Ordered by the Gallian military to perform the most dangerous missions and dirty work that the Regular Army and Militia will not do, they are nevertheless up to the task, exemplified by their motto, "Altaha Abilia" ("Always Ready" in Latin.)

The main characters, Kurt Irving (Number 7), a disgraced army officer who wishes to redeem himself, Imca (Ace Number 1), a Darcsen Heavy Weapon specialist who seeks revenge against the Valkyrian who destroyed her home, and Riela Marceris (Number 13), a young woman who unknowingly is a descendant of the Valkyria, are tasked to fight against a mysterious Imperial unit known as "Calamity Raven".

Gameplay

From some previews, it should be noted that No. 13 can use an ability to turn into a valkyria at will. No. 7 can bring other units along. Ace No. 1 can upgrade her special lancer to lock on to certain enemy targets and cause multiple explosions. There seemingly is a new ability system besides potentials.

Development

In September 2010, a teaser website was revealed by Sega, hinting at a new Valkyria Chronicles game.[3] In its September issue, Famitsu listed that Valkyria Chronicles III would be arriving on the Playstation Portable.[4] On September 16, the official Valkyria Chronicles III website was launched to the public with a developers' blog, coinciding with the announcement of the game in the 2010 Tokyo Game Show.
