He obtained his composition diploma from the S. Cecilia conservatory in Rome under Domenico Guaccero and the Choral Music and Choir conducting diploma from the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro with Giuseppe Agostini. He currently teaches at the “Alfredo Casella” conservatory in L’Aquila and is considered one of the most important composers of our time. The following leading international musical institutions have commissioned works from him: The S.D.R. Radio Symphony orchestra of Stuttgart, the N.D.R. Radio symphony orchestra of Hamburg, the W.D.R. His opera Alice, commissioned by RAI-Radiouno, Radiotre, won the Barcelona “Hondas” Prize and the special critics prize of the “Prix Italia”. He was chosen by the Presidency of the Nobel Peace Prize to compose, together with Matsudaira, Menotti, Penderecki and Schnittke, the World Mass for Peace, performed in Oslo at the Nobel Prize giving.

Biography

Other compositions of his are: the “Missa de beatificatione in onore di P. Pio da Pietrelcina” commissioned as the official mass for the beatification and performed in the Sala Nervi at the Vatican, “Passio et Resurrectio”, a cantata for soloists, choir and orchestra composed for the Good Friday in the Jubilee year of 2000, His three act Opera “Romanza -una favola romana-” and De Profundis, Secretum Teophili, a one act cantata was commissioned by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Canto della notte, for female choir and brass, commissioned by the Arena di Verona foundation, His Sinfonia n° 1 was commissioned by the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra whilst the Sinfonia n° 2 was commissioned by the Government of the Andorran Republic. The Vatican city state, together with the June 2009 Easter festival have commissioned a Cantata on the figure of St. Paul, this composition will be the only official work that celebrates the Year of St. Paul and its performance by the Choir and orchestra of La Scala will be broadcasted worldwide. Also in 2009 the Andorran Government, together with the “Liceu” theatre in Barcellona, have commissioned a three act Opera “Le somny de Carlo Magno” , this is to be the first Opera written in the Catalan language. In 2010 he will write a Double Concerto for violin, Cello and orchestra for ONCA and another Cello and orchestra Concerto for E. Dindo and the Sinfonica di San Remo.
