In September 2010, Zoosk began to restrict the age range of members that are searchable, i.e. an 18 year old can only search for matches that are under the age of 20, no matter what their personal preference. This has been upsetting to some members that don't believe that a website should make these choices for their members without consent.<ref>[http://www.zoosk.com/search.php "Zoosk Search for Singles"] - Zoosks own search engine</ref>

Zoosk is a social networking and online dating website with third-party applications on several social networking services.[1] Zoosk is based in San Francisco, CA.[2]

Zoosk is a subscription-based dating service, but non-paying members can post a profile and browse other profiles for free. Non-paying members can also pay for some services with virtual currency.[3]

History

The company was started in December 2007 by Alex Mehr and Shayan Zadeh, initially as a third-party dating application on Facebook.[4]

In May 2010, Grammy Award winning recording artists T-Pain and Flo Rida released a song inspired by Zoosk entitled "Zoosk Girl".[5]

In September 2010, Zoosk began to restrict the age range of members that are searchable, i.e. an 18 year old can only search for matches that are under the age of 20, no matter what their personal preference. [citation needed]

Features

Zoosk users can access the service on Zoosk's main website or use its third-party application on their Facebook, Bebo, Hi5, Tagged, or Myspace social networking platforms. [1] Zoosk also offers a mobile phone version of its service.
