Ty Burhoe

Ty Burhoe (born February 28, 1964 in Massachusetts) is an American tabla player, record company owner and live concert producer.

Ty Burhoe has been a disciple of the great tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, since 1990. From that time forward, Ty has been dedicated to music, not just as a career but as a life path. Ty is renowned for his inspired accompaniment and uplifting presence in both the Classical Indian and in fusion settings. He is internationally recognized as being an innovative influence in creating unique collaborations that weave tabla with many other world traditions.[1]

Ty performs and records with a broad range of artists including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Art Lande, Krishna Das, Kala Ramnath, Curandero (Miguel Espinoza), Ustad Sultan Khan, Béla Fleck, Walter Becker (Steely Dan), Steve Gorn, Mamadou Diabaté, Rick Allen (Def Leppard), Howard Levy, Kitaro, Bill Douglas, Jon Anderson (Yes), Roshan Jamal Bhartiya (sitar), Steve Oda (sarode), Shubhendra Rao (sitar), and many others.[3]

Since 1995, Ty has served as Zakir Hussain's tour assistant as well as the designer for his custom drums and drum racks which Zakir uses for his tours with Shakti, Masters of Percussion, Mickey Hart & Planet Drum, Charles Lloyd Trio and Lines Ballet collaborations.

Ty teaches tabla retreats[5] twice a year in Colorado as well as "Musical Universe" workshops[6] throughout the world. He currently resides in Boulder, Colorado USA.
