Sarah Potts was a fictional character on the soap opera Shortland Street. She was played by Amanda Billing. Sarah worked as a doctor and started her own GP clinic with the help of her estranged husband TK Samuels. After being on the soap for 6 years, Sarah left for Boston in November 2010 after getting back together with TK.
Character history
2004-2006
Sarah arrived to Shortland Street after hitting Jake Valentines car. She instantly got in arguments with Craig but they sorted it out and Sarah got a position in ED. Sarah became pregnant in her teens and the child, Daniel, was raised by her parents. Daniel learnt that from Sarah that she was his mother and reacted badly wanting to know his father. Sarah eventually found her former boyfriend who was married to a Samoan lady living in Samoa, Daniel decided that he wanted to live with him but keeps in touch with his mother. Sarah started dating Yvonne Jeffries son Hamish Flynn, but it turned out he was a conman out for Yvonnes money. Sarah started to date Andrew Solomon and they got engaged. Unfortunately as soon as the minister pronounced them husband and wife, Robyn Stokes Andrew's ex-girlfriend, arrive at the church and announced that she was pregnant with his baby. Andrew left with Robyn. Sarah began to date Craig Valentine as the romantic and sexual tension between them was great. Sarah could not ignore Craigs bad temper however and the two broke up. TK admitted that he was in love with her but Craig decided he too was in love with her. Sarah struggled with her love for both Craig and TK. She ultimately decided to choose TK.
2007-2009

Sarah began to have health problems and sought medical advice from old flame Craig Valentine and a series of tests were carried which pointed to multiple sclerosis which she refused to accept and proceed to self-diagnosed other causes to her condition. Sarah finally admitted to Craig that she did have multiple sclerosis when a patient came into the ED suffering from the same symptoms. TK is unaware of this illness which she has shared with Kip who kept a watchful eye on her. Sarah later quit her job due to the onset of the MS.
Sarah was good friends with Toni Warner and following the car crash looked after here when she lost a kidney after being discharged from the hospital as she had nowhere to go.
Sarah was shocked to learn that her former boyfriend and boss, Craig had been murdered but prior to his death had found medication prescribed for best friend Toni in their bathroom, and tests found the drugs had been severely diluted. In December 2008, Sarah learnt she was pregnant but a later scan revealed that the child would die when it was born so the pregnancy was terminated. Towards the end of March 2009, a rather grown-up Daniel returned to study at Ferndale High School, but the real reason being he was getting into the wrong crowd. Soon after his return, Daniel went to a party with Sophie McKay.
She quit her job as HOD of ED and is now doing research and part time in the PCC while TK is working in ED because TK and Brooke didn't get along.
Recently Sarah has had to deal with the return of her son Daniel and his dodgey dealings. Daniel had now moved back to Samoa because he felt guilty about Sarah's MS symptoms returning and thinks it because all the stress he has put on her. Daniel then returned and is living with her and TK. Sarah has recently become HOD of the PCC and Brooke got demoted. Recently Sarah has decided to split with TK because of the of subject children and Sarah not being able to have then because of her Ms. Then on 18 December 2009, Sarah slept with Maxwell Avia (to prove she's moved on from her separation with TK, even though she still loves him).
2010
In the first episode of 2010 she told TK, which later lead to TK sleeping with Brooke. On January 27, she was devastated to find out that TK has slept with Brooke by Daniel. She firmly told Brooke to back off as she believed that TK wouldn't fall in love with a manipulative and deceiving woman like her. She goes off to TK and questions him about it, to which he confirms it as true. Sarah tries telling him that Brooke isn't the kind of woman that is looking for love and accuses him of doing the wrong thing though TK backfires by saying that she shouldn't bother on what he is doing with his life, seeing how she has moved on with another man and just because he had done the wrong thing, doesn't mean she could carry on arguing about it. Sarah is then seen crying in the locker room in the hospital by Gabrielle, telling her that she has made the biggest mistake of her life. She has recently moved in to a place of her own and Daniel has moved in with her because he doesn't want to live with TK because of him and Brooke getting together but got over it. Sarah did not get on with the partying neighbors though and she and Daniel moved into Maxwell's apartment and Sarah and Maxwell started dating once again. After having troubles with Maxwell's ex-wife, Vasa and her daughter Ula, Sarah got offered the job of temporary CEO of the hospital after Callum's suspension. On Thursday 21 October, she and Maxwell break up. Her position as Acting CEO was short lived as lack of evidence of Callum messing things up at work was not clear to detail and he had resumed his job as CEO. Now Sarah has been offered a place to join an MS team led by Quentin, one of the golfers that TK and Jennifer met and accidentally swinging a golf ball at his head. However the MS research is located in Boston. Sarah has a difficult decision to make: To leave Ferndale and start a new life or remain back with her son and close friends, including the hope to start over with TK.
Sarah's friends from Shortland Street Hospital had hosted a goodbye drinking party for her, though she was looking for TK, who left the party early but she followed him to his home wondering why he was acting strangely distant from her. From there he reveals that he is still in love with her, which she returns warmly saying that she still loved him too. They passionately spent the night together. Next day, they are happy to be together again. Sarah thinks about her decision to remain in Ferndale and pick things up with TK. Later on during the day, she return's to Scotty and Tracey's flat, and is surprised to find her son, Daniel there. Daniel was obviously was looking for her clearly suspicious of her whereabouts on the previous night. He thought that she was with Maxwell, but it becomes clear to him that she was with TK. He is not happy though, insisting that things between them will just end up like last time. He becomes disappointed when Sarah decides to stay in Ferndale but Daniel does not want her to give up the job opportunity in Boston, later on he is seen with TK, advising him to let Sarah to take the chance to prove herself, even it takes awhile let her make her focus on her goals. When Sarah tells TK that she is staying to be with him, TK kindly tells her to go while the door was open for her. She is confused but fearing of the fact that he was not going to continue their relationship but TK insists that that he loves her but wants her to be happy. Sarah decides after all to go to Boston, she is then seen gathering up her belongings and kisses TK and last adding that she loves him.
