J.D. Chakravarthy, was born in 1970 in a Telugu Brahmin family. He was born to noted carnatic singer Dr. Kovela Santha. Chakravarthy did his schooling in st Georges grammar school, Hyderabad and later completed his B.E from Chaitanya Barathi Institute of Technology(CBIT). He is often called J.D. by close friends and known as Chakravarthi by the Telugu film audience. Marked his debut in Ram Gopal Verma's debut blockbuster Shiva (1989 film) in a negative role as a fellow student named J.D. After that, he played various negative, supporting and lead actor roles in Telugu Cinema and a supporting role in a Malayalam film, (Ennodishtam Koodamo), before devoting all his time to films under his mentor's, Ram Gopal Verma's direction and production. He starred in handful Telugu films directed and/or produced by Ram Gopal Verma and other prominent Telugu film directors before Satya, his first Hindi film in a lead role and his most prominent role to date, released in theaters on the 3rd July 1998. Satya was critically-acclaimed, though criticized for its gruesome depiction of violence. It was touted to be one of the best films in Bollywood history and Ram Gopal Verma's finest masterpiece after his film 'Company'.
Career
Even though his career started with Shiva (1989 film), his talent got recognition with Satya in Telugu & Hindi as well. After Satya, he did handful Telugu films including 'Kasi' and 'Maa Pelliki Randi' which did not fare at the Telugu box office. His latest film as an actor was Vaastu Shastra, a horror film with Sushmita Sen which did moderately well at the box office in Hindi and was dubbed in Telugu like most of Verma's Bollywood productions. He also starred in his first Tamil film in 2002 in a supporting role of a Tamil Tiger fighter in Sri Lanka called Dhileepan, who fathers a little girl, in Mani Ratnam's award-winning masterpiece Kannathil Muthamittal. Chakravarthi's beard is touted in all his on screen appearances. J.D. Chakravarthy has returned to Telugu film industry with Homam. His scintillating performance (dialogue delivery, acting and direction) in Homam has boosted his market value with producers. Homam’s success has brought him laurels as well as prestigious projects.
