Thank you for your comments! Though no, the assignment was not to rewrite the article. My teammates have attempted to make more changes and I hope you'll have the time to look at them. Thank you for your time. (Burrisan (talk) 15:15, 11 February 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Account Creation Improvement Project

Hello,

You signed up on the Account Creation Improvment Project on the Outreach wiki. Thanks.

Now, we are looking for help. We are going to test the pages that are in the account creation process right now, against any pages that you create. More information.

Best wishes, SvHannibal (talk) 16:30, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

coordinate Ellen Rosell's class?

Howdy! Would you be willing to be the coordinating ambassador for Ellen Rosell's Public Policy Making course at Troy University?

It looks like this class is working in teams, so they may not need a mentor for every single student... maybe just one or two per team. (It looks from the syllabus that they were supposed to have requested mentors already, but it seems they haven't; Annie will be trying to figure out how they want to use mentors soon.) So your main role would be to keep an eye on how the class is going overall, and get the attention of other ambassadors when more help is needed. Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:09, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PS: If you'd like to do more, like coordinate another class, just let me know.

Hello Sage! Yeah, sure. I'll keep an eye on them. They certainly look behind schedule. Bejinhan talks 02:26, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 02:35, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Articles

I selected potential articles for me to start working on for my public policy project. I listed them in my userpage. Could you take a look at them and give me some feedback and help me choose the best one? Thank you! Sfofana (talk) 23:40, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mentoring students: be sure to check in on them

This message is going out to all of the Online Ambassadors who are, or will be, serving as mentors this term.

Hi there! This is just a friendly reminder to check in on what your mentees are doing. If they've started making edits, take a look and help them out or do some example fixes for them, if they need it. And if they are doing good, let them know it!

If you aren't mentoring anyone yet, it looks like you will be soon; at least one large class is asking us to assign mentors for them, and students in a number of others haven't yet gotten to asking ambassadors to be their mentors, but may soon. --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:05, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 February newsletter

So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.

Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.

Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. PPI Assessment Team Spring Recruiting

Hi Bejinhan, Your work assessing article quality is really valuable and generated some excellent results from fall semester. The assessment process has been streamlined and dates are clearly posted for the upcoming assessment rounds. The Initiative has a lot more classes signed up for spring, so I would like to recruit some more Wikipedian assessors, and I was hoping you could help with that. I think community members would be more likely to participate if they are recruited by Wikipedians like yourself who have a good reputation. The strategy that worked last semester was to leave an individual message on the talk pages of non-adversarial Wikipedians. I looked for people by contributions to public policy related articles and those active on the 1.0 Editorial Team. I usually mentioned in the message what specifically about their work history made me think they would be a good assessment team participant. This is super time consuming to contact like 50 people, but only doing a few is not so bad. Also, I am looking for feedback about assessing with PPI, so please check out the discussion on the assessment tab, and let me know there if you have a chance to recruit some other assessors. I hope you are looking forward to another great semester working on this project. Drop me a line - ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk) 06:38, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Online Ambassador Program

Please take a look at this project page and see if you can be a mentor to one of the many Areas of Study. If you can, please put your name in the "Online Mentor" area of the Area of Study of your choice and then contact the students you will be working with. As the Coordinating Online Ambassador for this project, please let me know if I can be of assistance. Take Care...NeutralhomerTalk04:31, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello from Wikimedia Philippines

Hello Bejinhan.

I am exec8, one of the board members of Wikimedia Philippines. I will be in Kuala Lumpur by May 2011 for my new professional assignment and will take a leave of absence from my duties in the Philippine chapter. I would like to meet with Wikipedians in Malaysia in my free time there. --Exec8 (talk) 19:23, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have the exact dates you'll be here? Bejinhan talks 05:29, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You might already know, but...I just noticed - the "Today's Featured Article" for tomorrow (5 March) is Lat, a Malay cartoonist.  Chzz  ►  18:57, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know that. Thanks for informing me! It's wonderful seeing it on the main page. :) Bejinhan talks 03:41, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Public Policy -Direct Lobbying Project

Hi!

Just wanted to shoot a hello. My name is Anna and I am one of the group members of the direct lobbying group. I was wondering you if had any idea on what perspective we can take!

Thanks and I look forward to working with you! Chlopeck (talk) 05:25, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anna! How about the perspective of direct lobbying for a free media, telecommunication, or internet movement? What perspectives do you and the others have in mind? Try to choose something that has sufficient reliable sources. Bejinhan talks 02:56, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! This is Daniel and I another one of the group members of "direct lobbying." Sorry for posting this so late, but I look forward to working with you. Thanks! Vert3x (talk) 17:03, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Marking articles students are working on

Howdy, Online Ambassador!

This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students (in particular, any ones you are mentoring, but others who don't have mentors as well) and do these things:

  1. Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
  2. If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
  3. Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.

And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.

Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:10, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

mentors for Rosell's course

From the syllabus, it looks like they were planning to have the students request mentors, rather than have us assign them. Obviously, that hasn't happened (yet?), but I haven't heard anything from their professor or Campus Ambassador indicating that they want mentors assigned by us. Maybe Tony Garrett can give us a better idea of what the current plan is.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 14:29, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Got a message about an hour ago from Professor Obar of the Media and Telecommunication Policy project and I think it is viewed best in full:

Can you please communicate to the online mentors that I DO NOT want them moving student material into the main space for them. This is a big problem. I have noticed that this has happened with a number of the projects already, for example, in the broadband.gov article and the media cross-ownership article. We need the students to be doing this on their own, of course so they can learn how to do it, and also so that I can grade what they've done. How am I supposed to follow student submissions if the data is associated with online mentors? A BIG PROBLEM ALREADY... please help me with this. None of you responded to my post about this on the discussion page. This is about to get out of hand. Jaobar (talk) 05:27, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

With that, of course, please only give instructions on how to move, don't do it for them. Please only let them know what to do and let them do it themselves. If they run into problems, provide further instructions. Do not it for them. This seems to be making a mess of Prof. Obar's grading system and I would like to avoid that. Thanks. - NeutralhomerTalkCoor. Online Amb'dor06:14, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
