Madden '99 was NOT the first Madden game with NFL players on the cover
Madden '95 had Erik Williams (Cowboys) and Karl Wilson (49ers, wearing the wrong number for some reason) on it. And both suffered from the "Madden curse", too: Williams was injured in a major car accident shortly after its release and spent a whole year rehabbing one whole side of his body. Wilson had already been traded to the Buccaneers by the time the game was released and retired after the following year.
