Adam Woolnough (born 24 May 1981 in Taree, New South Wales) is an Australian professional rugby league player who currently plays for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL. His position is prop. He has previously played for the Penrith Panthers and the Newcastle Knights. The 2009 NRL season was his last, as he announced his retirement on August 19, 2009, effective of his final 2009 NRL game aginast his old club, the Newcastle Knights on Round 26, 2009. Woolnough's reason for retirement was that he was not getting enough first grade game time, and was playing the majority of his games for the Penrith Panthers feeder side, the Windsor Wolves. Woolnough also wished to spend more time with his family and pursue other things in life.[1]

Playing career

While attending Taree High School, Woolnough was selected to represent the Australian Schoolboys team in 1999.[2] He played for the Newcastle Knights from 2002 until 2007 when he signed a 3-year contract with the Penrith Panthers starting from the 2008 season. Woolnough retired at the end of the 2009 season despite having one year left to go on his contract.

Melbourne Storm

After recently travelling to South Africa, South America and the UK he bumped into ex NRL player Clint Newton who he spoke to and was encouraged by him to join the Melbourne Storm.[3]

On the 21st of January 2011, it was reported that Adam had exchanged punches at training, during the Melbourne Storm pre season with fellow team mate Mitchell Johnson.[4]
