The sixth season of Dexter premiered on October 2, 2011.

Plot

The sixth season starts with suspense. Dexter is shown to be squirming around in what appears to be pain. He calls 911 and requests paramedics for what he says to be a stab wound. It turns out that it was all a part of his plan to draw two specific paramedics that Dexter had found to be letting innocent patients die for their personal monetary gains. Dexter kills both of them with defibrillators to start off the season.

Dexter's life is back to normality of sorts. Batista's sister Jamie Batista has become Harrison's babysitter, and she takes care of Harrison whenever Dexter is away from home (at work or on his personal business). Dexter and Debra visit a Catholic school where they plan on letting Harrison attend. It is reaching the point where Harrison's future is slowly beginning to come into the picture to a deeper extent than ever before. Dexter, after attending the meeting with the Catholic school, makes it clear that he is not a religious man, but he seems troubled about Harrison's future and possibly passing along his dark passenger.

Back at Miami Metro, María LaGuerta is promoted to Captain. It is revealed that LaGuerta used deceit and blackmail to gain the position of Captain. She had a picture of Chief Matthews in some prostitute's clients book. Vince Masuka has taken up the responsibility of teaching a group of forensic science students. Angel Batista is also seems to have obtained a divorce with LaGuerta. Meanwhile, Dexter attends his High School reunion after many years on the suspicion that the High School quarterback had murdered his wife. After obtaining his blood and finding a perfect DNA match from the wife's murder scene records, Dexter realizes his instincts were right all along. He plays tag football before he kills

Travis Marshall along with Professor Gellar are introduced. They seem to be the primary villains that the rest of the season will be based upon They are shown to poach a pregnant snake that will be used for a murder. The next day, Travis walks up to a fruit worker, who he murders with a machete. It is later revealed that Travis had sewn baby snakes into his intestines that Miami Metro (along with Dexter) later locate after it washes up. The episode ends with Gellar saying to Travis "It's begun." Dexter is shown once again to be worried about Harrison growing up to be thinking of "those" things.
