The Virginia Tech Department of Physics is part of the College of Science. Physics has been taught at Virginia Tech since the university's inception in 1872. Since 1960 the department has been housed primarily in Robeson Hall, named after Frank L. Robeson (Department Head 1918-1954). The department offers academic programs leading to B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The department maintains research in a variety of areas, including:
